SAAB 99 EMS FOR 1978: A True Sports Sedan with Performance, Handling — And Extra Versatility

ORANGE, CONNECTICUT — The Saab 99 EM5 has been hailed by 1he world’s automotive press as a true sports sedan, a car combining handling and performance, with excellent seating comfort and lots of passenger room. For 1978 the saab 99 EMS also of furs an extra bonus in load carrying, thanks to its new three-door configuration.

The fastback styling allows for a large rear hatch, incorporating the rear window, that opens up to allow very large loads – up to six feet in length. Special performance features on 1he 1978 saab EMS include a sporty, stif fer suspension, Bilstein gas-filled shock absorbers, tight steering, wide Pirelli CN 36 tires and the front air dam.

Other EMS specials are the aluminum alloy wheels, a new sports steering wheel with impact absorbing center padding, tachometer with built-in clock, and impact absorbing inner door panels.

Powering the 1978 Saab EMS is a fuel-injected two-liter overhead cam engine developing 115 hp (SAE net). For West Coast and Rocky Mountain states that engine is equipped with the Lambda Guard emissions system with three-way catalyst, and in that version develops 110 hp (SAE net).
