SPECIAL SAAB TURBO SHOW VERSION DEBUTS AT CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

CHICAGO, ILLIONOIS — February 24, 1978 — A specially built show version of the new Saab Turbo was unveiled today at the opening of the Chicago International Automobile Show.

The widely hailed regular Saab Turbo model will be available through some 315 Saab dealers nationally within the next few weeks.

The special show Turbo features a number of special innovations such as a dual-tone silver/gold paint that changes hue depending upon the angle of light reflections. Special design aluminum alloy wheels are color-matched to the body color. High performance low-profile Pirelli P-7 tires are mounted on the wheels.

Other styling specialities include the black-accented window moldings around the windshield, side windows and the rear window; and the mocca velour interior decor with leather accented seats.

Besides its special styling features, the show Turbo also is equipped with rectangular Halogen headlights with the famous Saab-designed headlight washer and wiper system. This kind of a cleaning system was pioneered by Saab some years ago, and similiar devices are now required by law on all cars sold in Sweden.

Special Turbo details on the show car that are also standard on the regular Saab Turbos include the rear deck spoiler, which increases stability and high speed and improves fuel consumption; the front air dam; electrically controlled outside mirrors; Bilstein shock absorbers; and a dashboard mounted turbo boost guage.

Powering the Saab Turbo is a turbo-charged version of the four-cylinder Saab 99 overhead camshaft engine, developing 135 bhp (SAE net) at 5,000 rpm and maximum torque at 160 ft. lbs at 3,500 rpm. These figures represent increases of 23 percent in horsepower and 34 percent in maximum torque over the output of the normally aspirated Saab engine.
