SAAB 900 FOR 1981

The Saab 900 hatchback is the base model for the Swedish Saab line—up for 1981. The Saab 900, which will go on sale at Saab dealers throughout the nation around November 15, offers practically all of the new features included in the 1981 Saab models. These include a radically redesigned engine, which saves both weight and fuel; a larger, 16.6 gallon fuel tank; new interiors with plush velour upholstery and a slimmer but still more comfortable rear seat. The Saab 900 — and 9005 line — are all powered by an in—line four-cylinder engine, equipped with Lambda Emission Control and three-way catalyst, developing 110 bhp (SAE net) at 5,250 rpm and 119 ft. lbs. torque at 3,500 rpm. The Saab 900 model for 1981 is a three-door hatchback version, available with both a five- speed manual transmission and automatic. The Saab 900 incorporates the Saab fold·d0wn rear seat feature, which allows the already very large luggage space to be expanded into an almost six foot long, flat cargo floor for carrying large and bulky loads.
