SAAB TURB0 SEDAN FOR 1981

A newcomer to the Swedish Saab line of cars for l98l is the new Saab 900 four- door notchback sedan, available both with the famous Saab turbo engine — Turbo model pictured above — and with the normally aspirated Saab straight four-cylinder engine.

For 1981 the Saab Turbo features a host of new innovations, including for the first time, an automatic transmission for the Turbo. In addition, the Saab Turbo has a new turbocharger with an integrated wastegate (charging pressure control valve), which is controlled by pressure in the intake manifold instead of by the pressure in the exhaust manifold as in the past. The new turbine for l98l is smaller and gives better throttle response, especially at low speeds. The power output of the Saab turbo engine is l35 bhp (SAE net) at 4,800 rpm and l60 ft. lbs. torque at 3,500 rpm. ‘

The Saab 900 Turbo Sedan will be available through some 315 Saab dealers nationally about November l5.
