SAAB ANNOUNCES THIRD CONSECUTIVE DOUBLE-DIGIT U.S. SALES INCREASE FOR 1996

NORCROSS, Ga. — Saab Cars USA, Inc., the U.S. importer and distributor of Saab 900 and 9000 automobiles, announced a 1996 sales total of 28,439 cars, an impressive 11 percent increase over 1995 sales of 25,595. Saab’s 1996 total U.S. sales are the Swedish automaker’s highest since 1989.

“This strong sales gain is the third year in a row that Saab has posted a double-digit annual increase,” said Joel Manby, Saab Cars USA, Inc. president and CEO. “We expect our 1997 models to continue this strong growth, a trend we’ve already seen in our November and December sales results. In fact, last month was Saab’s best December since 1988,” Manby added. December sales of 2,509 cars were 69.1 percent higher than a year ago.

The award-winning Saab 900 line — available in three-door, five-door or Convertible body styles — continues to lead Saab’s strong sales momentum.

The practical five-door Saab 900 S and SE proved to be the most popular, with 12,337 retailed — 43.4 percent of total sales. The popular 900 Convertible
models were also particularly strong sellers, accounting for 23.9 percent of total Saab sales, up 7.5 percent over 1995. Expanded availability of Saab’s
turbocharged engine to all 900 body styles led an increase of 215.5 percent in 900 Turbo sales, accounting for 9,122 cars. Including both the 900 and
9000 line, more than half (52.4 percent) of new Saabs sold in 1996 were turbocharged.

Saab’s large-car entries, the 9000 series, totaled 6,003 sales. The best-selling model in the 9000 range, with 3,388 cars sold, was the 9000 CS equipped
with its award-winning light-pressure turbocharged engine.

Saab 900 AGAIN NAMED “TOP CAR” BY CONSUMER REVIEW

NORCROSS, Ga. – For the third consecutive year, the Saab 900 series has been named among the “best cars sold in America,” according to editors at Consumer Review magazine. The annual honor included the entire 900 line – Coupe, five-door and Convertible – for inclusion in the publication, Consumer Review 1997 Top 40 New Cars.

After evaluating more than 200 new car and truck models, Consumer Review selected ten top cars in each of four categories. The Saab 900 was selected as
one of its “Top 10 Luxury/Sports Sedans,” a new category for 1997. The Saab 900 was rated as one of the top 10 “Sports Cars” in the 1995 and 1996 edition
of the publication. The magazine’s objective: “Highlight the vehicles that will give you the most value for your money.”

Describing the Saab 900, editors reported, “With features that compare very well to cars costing $10,000 more, the Saab 900 has become a very viable choice. It offers high levels of performance, distinctiveness and practical features. When comparing this to other cars offering those qualities, the 900 is very impressive.”
