On the topic of Saab Aircraft and Saab Automotive, here is quote from 1986 by a spokesperson of Saab-Scania of America, Inc. when they were located in Orange, Connecticut.

The aerospace connection; technology transfer takes flight, and it flows both ways – auto industry

Ward’s Auto World, July, 1986 by Drew Winter

“It’s not all hype,” says Daniel Petit, a spokesman for Saab-Scania of America Inc. He says engineers from Saab’s aerospace operations contribute to design and development of Saab car interior ergonomics, seats, dashboard designs and illumination, plastic material usage, vehicle electronics, metal-bonding techniques, and metal fatigue testing.

Aerospace engineers also helped to develop a wireless ignition system, improving Saab truck aerodynamics, and even aided in development of carbon-fiber suspension arms for Saab race cars. The Aircraft Div.’s Cray super-computer, Mr. Petit says, is tapped for auto design work and crash testing.

As a follow up to the recent posting on the great year Saab Aircraft leasing has had, I should mention that the Saab 340 operators, had a conference held this past fall in Clearwater, Florida where they gathered to “talk Saab..aircraft that is”.

It is good to know that the Saab Automobile enthusiasts are not the only ones that have conventions and festivals.

For more information on this conference, please visit their site at Saab Group

Saab Development Center for Car Recycling (SDCC)

Posted on 31. Jan, 2007 by .

The Saab Development Center for Car Recycling in Trollhättan, Sweden, also known as the SDCC has got to be the leader in providing hard-to-find Saab parts and accessories, unfortunately they are not in the business of shipping worldwide. This center has just about every genuine Saab part and accessory you could ever imagine. If you get the chance to visit Sweden this summer for the 60th Anniversary Saab Festival , you will be in for an overwhelming experience for rare and hard-to-find items that you never new were available, brand new!

Here is a quote about the SDCC facility as shown here

Saab Development Center for Car recycling, SDCC, has got the largest range of new and near new Original Spare Parts and Accessories for Saab in Sweden. And this at a very attractive price level.

Outlet of NOS parts at the Saab Festival to all Saab Enthusiasts!
SDCC will be having a 1200 m2 outlet with brand new Saab Genuine Parts and Accessories from Saabs Spare Parts Center at “once-in-a-lifetime” prices.

Parts are mainly for Saab 900 ”Classic” 1979-93 och Saab 9000 1985-98. But there will also be parts for newer models available, and you might even find the occasional part for older models.

If you get the chance to get over to Sweden this summer, I highly recommend visiting this facility which is located just to the right of the Saab Museum in the photo below and working out the necessary arrangements to ship any of the items back to your home country. I have also provided some detailed photos show just how many Saab parts and accessories fill the facility. The prices were extremely low, and when I mean low, we’re talking junk-yard prices for brand new genuine Saab parts, and sometimes even less than that!

Enjoy some photos below that I took in the summer of 2005 while attending the Saab Festival in Sweden.

Saab 9-5 SportCombi as choice vehicle for the IKEA trip

Posted on 30. Jan, 2007 by .

The voters came out for this poll in abundance and voted for the Saab 9-5 SportCombi as the the choice vehicle for all of those IKEA trips!

The Saab 9-5 SportCombi is #1 by taking 1/3rd of the votes or 54 out of the total 150 votes that were placed.

Notable Feature: The 9-5 SportCombi allows for the plat-packed IKEA products to fit nicely in the back of the Combi mainly because the seats have the ability to lay completely flat, a very important feature as far as functionality and practicality is concerned.

Good job everyone in casting your votes!

Saab Automobile product range: Safe, versatile, practical, unique and progressive.
IKEA product range — Modern, functional, attractive, and progressive.

– Different companies, similiar product philosophies

Here is a photo that was recently provided to me of a Saab 99 that at the time, was the choice Saab model for those trips to IKEA. I was wondering how many of you have made it to IKEA in your Saab and have found that the plat-packed design of many IKEA goods works well with the utility and practicality of the Saab Automobile.

In the discussions I have had, I have heard from people that the 9000 was the best, and I have also heard that the 900 convertible was the best because the top goes down and the sky is the limit. Is there a “best” Saab model for such an arrangement?
