Odoardo Grey Saab Paint

odoardo_paint_small.jpgThe new paint code charts here on Saabhistory have gotten some people in a frenzy lately on some of the Saab bulletin boards. This debate is on the paint color typically found in the classic 900 SPG model between 1986 and 1989. The color that is under question is “Odoardo Grey”, which for some reason is also known as “Edwardian Grey”. Since the name of the color was named after Odoardo Pagani, Italian importer of Saabs in Turin, Italy.

I would like to get some clarification on this matter as to why the name “Edwardian” has been loosely used over the years.

The rumor is that the word “Edwardian” was a North American translation of Mr. Pagani’s last name and therefore it was used ever since, although the official name is “Odoardo”.

Please post your comments below to set the record straight.

‘Odoardo Grey’ is the official and correct name. The name ‘Edwardian’ is a misnomer.

Edwardian Grey was the term used in the U.S. market, beginning about 1987. It is the Anglecized version of Oduardo, because the Saab marketing people in the U.S. did not believe Americans would understand the derivation nor pronounciation.
