200px vonnegut12 Novelist Kurt Vonnegut dies at 84Novelist Kurt Vonnegut dies at 84 years old. One of his most notable novels includes Slaughterhouse-Five. Outside of writing, Kurt Vonnegut found himself during a short period of time working as a SAAB salesman by running a Cape Code automobile dealership in West Barnstable, Massachusetts called “SAAB Cape Cod”.

I am currently looking for the years he ran SAAB Cape Cod along with any photographs of that dealership.

Update: With a few quick calls to Hyannis Saab and the local West Barnstable Library, both in Cape Cod, Massacchusetts, I have heard that no one was familiar with a dealership in that area at that time. If someone could shed some more light on this, I would appreciate it.

    Mr. V. was interviewed by David B. on the PBS Show NOW last year. Mr. V had a note pad in his hand (which they showed on camera) that had the name of the dealership on it. Later there was some discussion on V-saab about this topic. Perhaps that will help you locate the dealership.

    My father, an artist and friend of Vonnegut’s at the time, worked with him in the Saab Dealership. It was a shoestring operation, and only lasted a short time, but was located in what I think was the old West Barnstable fire station on Route 6A, which is still there. I can remember my dad manning the store, so to speak, and also remember at about age 6 (1958) breaking down on the Mass Pike near Springfield or so in winter in the new Saab demo car my dad was given to drive. As I recall it broke down several times.
