The European Union Open House – Washington, D.C.
Posted on 14. May, 2007 by Ryan in 2000-2009, Sweden, Washington, D.C.

2007 is the 60th Anniversary for Saab Automobile with many indivuals making their trips to Europe and ultimately Sweden for the Saab Festival this June. It is important to note that the European Union has reached their 50th anniversary this year as well with the signing of the Treaty of Rome and with that there have been a number of events going on in the Washington, D.C. this spring and most recently, the European Union held Embassy open houses this past Saturday on May 12th from 10am until 4pm.
This open house was a truly historic culturally diverse event where many had the chance to experience other countries vicariously through the interaction with diplomats, food, music and entertainment and information being provided at each and every Embassy in Washington, D.C.
I have provided some information about this event as well as some photographs below for your enjoyment.
Here is an excerpt from the European Commission’s website:
Visit Europe in DC—meet a European diplomat and raise your IQ about Europe!
“50 Years of Peace, Prosperity and Partnership”
10 AM to 4 PM
We invite you to visit the European Union’s “home” in the US—the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, DC—on Saturday, May 12. Light snacks and drinks will be offered, and you will have the chance to talk with Europeans and Americans working for the European Union in the US.
We’re open from 10 am to 4 pm, and you’ll find us at 2300, M Street, NW (at 23rd & M Streets), Washington, DC 20037.

Here were the routes that were available to the Embassies with the lines being quite long to get into each and every one of them, it was tough to get into even a handful of them. I managed to get into about 4 of the embassies that were the Greek, Bulgarian, Cyprus and Swedish Embassy where the rooftop was finally open.

They were even stamping the generic “passports” you were provided when you made it to each embassy, although I did not see the people actually stamping them in a few of the embassies I managed to see.

IS THERE GOING TO BE ANOTHER OPEN HOUSE IN 2007 OR 2008? WAS THIS A FIRST?

Frances,
Good question. I would like to see another one of these events in 2008, it was an incredible program very well received by all attended.
We should send e-mails to the location EU commission and ask them directly.
