Posted on 16. May, 2007 by in 2000-2009, 9000, Sweden, United States

On October 7, 1986 Saab-Scania took three unmodified production MY1987 Saab 9000 Turbos out for a 20 day and night endurance event at Alabama International Speedway in Talladega, Alabama titled “The Long Run”. This event proved to be a memorable and successful one with speeds that averaged over 210 kilometers an hour along with numerous world records broken. 10 years later in 1996, this event was revisitted with a variation of 1997 model year Saab 900 models titled the “Talladega Challenge

These three vehicles now reside at the following locations:

Saab 9000 Talladega #1 – Whereabouts Unknown
Saab 9000 Talladega #2 – Saab Automobile Museum, Trollhättan, Sweden
Saab 9000 Talladega #3 – Saab Automobile USA Heritage Collection, Sterling Heights, Michigan
Saab 9000 Talladega #4 – IMHOF Talladega, Alabama

Here is the original promotional video that provides information about this event. Enjoy.

Would anyone at Saab be interested in working with the San Diego Automotive Museum to present the history of Saab sometime in the next two years?
