Saab & The Aspen Police Department – 1979

As a follow-up to the Saab collaboration with the Aspen Police Department, I have recently acquired a vintage photograph within a rather large donation to Saab History.
This photo depicts three brand new 1979 Saab 900 GLE Combi Coupes and was taken at exactly the same location where the previous photo was taken at the base of the mountain in downtown Aspen, Colorado.

Just so you know, that picture is taken about two blocks away from the other. The black and white picture was taken at the intersection of Galena Street and Cooper Avenue. The color photo of the 9-5 was taken on Mill Street at Hyman Avenue. Similar looks, but different locations (note the large building on the left in the black-and-white photo). I have a reasonable amount of knowledge about the Saabs, having worked 15 years with the Aspen PD, so if you have any questions I’d be happy to help.

The people in the picture are Ann Holmbeck on the left, Steve Sherman in the center, and John Goodwin (later to become Chief of Police).

Bill,
Wow, thank you very much for your comment! This is incredible!
Aspen really has had a long history with Saab, I’m sure the 1992 film “Dumb & Dumber” put you guys on the map with the media?
I hope that Aspen will come back to the Saab fold, but I can understand that you are not since you have moved onto Toyota’s Hybrids that Stephanie Dasaro has mentioned.
Hopefully GM will allow Saab to actually begin building hybrids and fully electric vehicles soon.
Here are the other Saab & Aspen posts for your reference and interest Bill.
