2008 Saab 9-3 Driving Sequences – Washington, D.C.
Posted on 07. Sep, 2007 by Ryan in 2000-2009, 9-3 SS, Washington, D.C.
I just received in the mail, a rushed delivery of some incredible footage from a television company that produced driving sequences and interviews for GM at the recent 2008 Saab 9-3 Media Drive event here in Washington, D.C.
I have gone ahead and provided each of these three films here for your viewing pleasure. Watching this incredible footage of the new 2008 Saab 9-3 on those roads in Virginia and that I also had the opportunity to experience recently as well as the iconic shots in and around the Washington, D.C. capitol area downtown were all quite surreal, especially since they basically in my backyard. I had no idea that this footage was made, so I was extremely delighted to watch this footage as soon as I received it. I hope you also enjoy this material as much as I did.

The end result is a feeling of unparalleled feeling of safety and security. SAAB XWD will be available in early 2008 on the Aero versions of the 9-3 Sport Sedan and SportCombi.
SOT Full: Peter Johansson / Saab Engineering Specialist AWD and Driveline
The up-rated all-aluminum 2.8 liter V6 turbocharged engine tops off the line of available powerful and efficient engines. The 9-3′s have excellent aerodynamics in addition to beautiful styling, reaffirming Saab’s tradition for designing cars that are sporty in character and versatile in use. Moreover, SAAB continues to design ‘ from the driver outwards’. That means the cabin ergonomics, the instrumentation, the controls and the seating position are all developed from the driver’s perspective.
The vehicles are positioned in the premium, mid-sized segment, providing an alternative choice to natural competitors such as BMW 3-series, Audi A-4 and Mercedes C-class.

It appears to me that this is the “stock footage” SAAB will supply to media outlets upon request. I have to point-out that I think they missed an opportunity to feature the “signature position lights” (aka “light pipes”) at the front of the car by including some night shots. Those lights are really a draw to the car and aren’t really noticeable during the day. People won’t know they exist unless they’re shown at night.

1985 Gripen,
That’s why I went ahead and took these night shots to highlight the horizontal LEDs.

And those shots are nice, but SAAB USA’s PR wing really should have added some night shots to the official stock footage so it finds its way into media reports. They need to highlight the “features” of SAABs, IMHO.

You mean running night footage in terms of video, opposed to photography I take it?

I mean having “official” SAAB footage. Your pics on this site are great for SAAB aficionados but it’s like preaching to the choir. SAAB USA needs to appeal to the general masses, so their official video footage should have included what the car will look like at night with the unique lighting accents. I have no problem with your coverage, just SAAB USA’s, which is difficult to say because I know and like all of the employees of SAAB USA I have met. I just think they dropped the ball in this case, IMHO.

1985 Gripen,
Thanks for your thoughts. Hopefully someone at Saab USA will be able to read this and consider these ideas with their ongoing PR efforts.

Hopefully NOT! They know who I am. I should’ve used an assumed name!

1985 Gripen,
It’s not a bad thing, it’s good for people to know what the Saab Community is thinking about when it comes to ideas, etc. We are as they have referred to us as their “extended family”, so it’s a good thing.
It’s all about collaboration.
