Classic Saab 900 Featured In Recent Avis TV Ad
Posted on 25. Feb, 2008 by Ryan in 2000-2009, 900
A frequent visitor to Saab History has just notified me of a classic Saab 900 that was featured in a recent Avis Rental Car TV advertisement.
I am beginning to see a trend in product placement for the Saab brand from the 2008 Saab 9-3 Aeros featured in the two Superbowl ads for Bridgestone to the Saab 9-7x showcased in the recent movie, “Untraceable”.
It is truly great to see the classic Saab Nine Hundreds making a comeback! This ad featuring this classic Saab 900, gives me hope about the ongoing project of my recent acquisition of a similiar classic Saab 900.
Enjoy the ad!

I love SAAB. But I don’t think you realize that this commercial is actually a big dis on SAAB. Did you notice the burned out back light at the very beginning of the commercial, the fact that the guy kicked the door closed, the fact that this is all really telling information considering the terrible problems avid SAAB supporters have to deal with from electrical problems to blown head gaskets? Did you notice that he was LEAVING his SAAB behind to RENT a car that is more reliable? SAAB Owners deserve more from the company they love. I’ve really considered buying an ’87 900 but all the bad reviews I’ve found online about SAAB’s electrical problems, transmission problems and high cost of repairs makes me not want to even bother. I own a 1983 VOLVO GL that is heavy and handles like a dump truck and I’d LIKE to replace it with a stylish SAAB, but my car is RELIABLE. Have’nt taken it to the shop for a whole 2 years and it has over 280,000 miles. Too bad for the whole SAAB thing. Really.

I owned a 91′ Saab 900 Turbo Convertible from late ’98 to mid 2000, and I loved that car even with it’s quirky electrical problems and suspect Turbo that would work maybe 2/3′s of the time–the car was built like a tank, red/black top and grey leather classic combo that drove through snow like an AWD, returned great gas mileage on Regular, and turned almost everyone’s head — the new ones I don’t quite like as much but they are still exciting to drive — I have missed mine ever since I traded it in and have had a CLK320,E320,Acura TL Type S, F150 8 Cylinders, etc., but I am still looking for an exact replacement in good shape — so although I agree with the problematic Saab picture one writer has posted, I also liken them to a good looking hot girlfriend or wife who breaks chops once in awhile — well worth it if you know how to handle a little grief — Bring back the more classic style in a new design and it’ll be as popular with Saab addicts as it once was….Gary Mantell / Car Enthusiast
