The Saab Automobile wordmark is to be indicated in the future design intent of the brand, says Saab Chief designer, Simon Padian at the Saab Design Center in Pixbo Sweden in a recent dialog with Saab History.

The Saab badge/ emblem will be an important part of our visual identity for the foreseeable future but without giving too much away we are looking at a re-prioritization of the emblem vs. the wordmark with regard to positioning on the vehicle etc. Already today if you look at show stands or merchandising the Saab wordmark is the most widely used compared to the emblem.

Dear GM, please don’t slay the Griffin!

It doesn’t sound like they intend to slay the Griffin, just make SAAB more prominent. At least it’ll stop people/friends from asking me: “What kind of car is that?”. Of course, they’ll then ask me the next most annoying question: “Who makes the SAAB?”. :-)
On the serious side, I think a lot of people see SAABs on the street and like them, but they don’t know what they are or where to find them. At least this should help with the identification/awareness problem.

I think it’s for brand recognition without question.

Remember the Scania griffen was a reference to the Scania trucks and the Saab-Scania era (1969-1989) as well as the Southern most tip of Sweden.
