Saab Enthusiast On The 2008 Saab Owners Convention

Posted on 27. Aug, 2008 by in 2000-2009, Events

I write a lot about various events, activities, etc. but with all of the feedback I received in person at the 2008 Saab Owners Convention this year, I thought it was about time to get the Saab enthusiasts feedback on this event.

Below is one of the best e-mails given the constructive criticism I have received so far from participants from this years convention, please read through these and don’t forget to add your comments and cast your vote below as well!

I thought the convention was OK. It ran smoothly and the sessions were worthwhile. NESA’s barbecues worked out well for the day trippers in the bunch too.

I do have some constructive comments though.

I thought the off site hotels, although excellent, were way to far offsite. The SCNA registration said about 6 miles. It was closer to 20!

There were not a lot of things for the family to do in the immediate vicinity which I think was a mistake. There was also not an Autocross or other such track event.

SCNA/NESA could have done a much better job publicizing the event via emails or other mechanisms besides Nines. For example I went to a few dealers and indy’s in my area (NJ) prior to the event and there were no posters or other such information present. Posters should have been sent to all member-discount dealers and shops. Not only that, but even in the vicinity of the convention, there were no signs at the Jackson Road exits on Rte 2 to attract day trippers who may have just been driving by in the number one SAAB market in the country. That seems a waste.

Also, for some reason the SCNA seems afraid to acknowledge some of the other active internet sites besides TSN such as The Saab Link. That board attracts mainly a young group of Saabers who, to be frank, could be the future of the club and its enthusiasm, yet, there were no official notifications on that board; only speculation and copies/links from TSN postings. I think this is a big mistake. We need to be much more open to new ideas, opinions and volunteers. Just because it is different does not mean it is wrong. Although I am not a young Saaber, I know for a fact that some of these folks want to get much more involved in the SCNA board and feel that their comments and issues are not being taken seriously.
