It is Tuesday, so that means a hopeful candidate for Saab Sighting of the week. This past week, during my travels in New England, I spotted another enthusiast owned Saab 900, but instead of a 900 S at the Portland Museum of Art, this one was a head turner in comparison.

It was none other than a 1990 SPG in talladega red and I even got a chance to meet the owner! The owner is a New Englander that has taken this car to California and back already and said it’s a pleasure to drive!

As I looked at it, all of the normal wear items were shown such as the headliner, bumper cover stripings front and rear (missing), but the paint looks fairly new as though it could have been painted, and VIGGEN emblems were attached to the front fenders, even though that model was introduced 9 years later.

One of the most delightful parts of the experience overall were in the details, the fact that this vehicle, although not preserved like the one I recently drove at the Turbo-X drive event in Boston this past May, it had the “correct” front SPG bumper extension pieces unlike the 1990 SPG from the Saab USA Heritage Collection in Detroit.

Having previously owned and driven classic 900 with the SPG skirt kit (although not an SPG) through a New England winter, I know it’s extremely difficult to maintain a car with such low ground clearance like this, especially with SPG bumper extensions, so I must commend this owner for being able to keep the car in fairly original condition, except for the Aero Wheels and Viggen Badging.

What a great sight, I hope to see it around for years to come!

I love seeing this car around Portland, is the owner on any of the forums? We need to get him/her to SCD and the other local events!
