I have just received the official response SCANIA in Södertalje, Sweden, and as it was in 2005, they are not Interested In Financially Supporting Saab Automobile.

Here is their response, with permission, in case there are any doubters:

Dear Ryan

The reason why Volvo Trucks says it will offer financial support to
Volvo Cars is that the company share the same brand name, which means
that Volvo trucks is afraid that Volvo Cars problem will hurt them. This
is not the case with Scania and Saab, so the answer is no.

Best regards
Hans-Ake

… and, I suppose, Saab Automobile’s problems wouldn’t hurt Saab Defence, so I doubt they would be interested in helping Saab Automobile. Doubt that they could share in any research projects anyway.

Ted,

Good point, it would be interesting if “SAAB” would offer any support to Saab Automobile as well.

Scania has delivered a polite response.

They could have added that the Wallenberg family engineered the unhappy Saab-Scania marriage as a means of saving Saab in 1969. Scania shared the losses from Saab until 1999. Once bitten, twice shy ?

Note that Scania is controlled by VW. Why would VW want a loss making former car manufacturer that competes (not very succesfully) with AUDI and increasingly VW itself ?

Peter,

Correct, I can’t see VW thinking about financially supporting a competitor.
