Saab Automobile AB President Says Saab Has Potential Buyers
Posted on 03. Dec, 2008 by Ryan in 2000-2009

According to the local, Saab Automobile AB President, Jan-Ã…ke Jonsson says that Saab has potential buyers such as German BMW, France’s Renault and India’s Tata motors are all reportedly potential buyers as quoted here:
“There are many interested parties. I don’t want to mention any specific names but there are many (interested) companies that work with development and support car production, both in Europe and outside of Europe,” Jan-Ã…ke Jonsson told Sveriges Radio.
“There are many different alternatives and I don’t want to go into specifics but it’s obvious the discussions we have had so far have been with companies within the automobile industry,” he added.
Well the people have spoken and their voice has been heard, here’s hoping Saab Automobile’s new owner actually looks at what they can do to invest in Saab, the payoff will come “after” the investment, so the company will need to think long-term in terms of profits, not short term like GM has done with Saab.

I hope its TATA.
Renault won’t keep it in the US, and BMW may cause a loss of brand
identity.

Saab could fit with TATA.
Jaguar = RWD (mostly !) luxury = MB
Saab = FWD (mostly) sporty = Audi
LandRover fits on its own ?
But would they want to have to re-engineer 3 brands ( and 10 car lines
) ?
Renault-Nissan could see an opportunity.
Could work for a relaunch of Renault + Saab with Nissan + Infiniti
across US ?
But they suffered recently, and may not be financially strong enough.
Equally, there are existing distribution links with Volvo following the
aborted merger in the 1980′s.
BMW suffered heavily with Rover. Would they want a repeat story ?
I guess we should remember that Saab has a reasonably efficient factory
in Trollhattan provided the SEK does not strengthen.
Whoever acquires Saab, it won’t be expensive. Initially !
