New Saab Automobile USA 9-3 SportCombi TV Ad – 2009

Posted on 09. Jan, 2009 by in 2000-2009, 9-3 SS

Here is the third and final installment for the new Saab television ads from McCann-Erickson for the 9-3 range.

These tv ads began with the “recycle” spot back in the summer with the 9-3 convertible, then this fall the Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan “Read The Road” XWD spots, and today the 9-3 SportCombi, complete with a Saab bicycle on the roof.

All three of these ads were filmed at Freezeout lake in Montana last summer The ad itself is merely the Saab driving in a nice location with some recognizable music, where is the creative here? I would have expected something a bit more impressive given its the first ad for the 9-3 SportCombi with McCann.

The ads only featured the 9-3 model range including the 9-3 Convertible, 9-3 Sport Sedan & 9-3 Sport Combi all in silver.

Seriously? I could’ve made that commercial with my HandyCam and my Mac… and I would’ve saved GM a _lot_ of money!

I don’t quite get it. Maybe they’re just trying to generate a “feel good” attitude about a beautiful Saab cruising the highways. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to get buyers. If it works, it’s okay.

    Chris & Ted,

I know, where’s the real “creative” here? I’d actually want to know what this cost.

Click on that link to see where it was filmed, what the crew #’s look like, what kind of equipment that was used, and then perhaps we can figure out what the cost equated to.

Let’s not forget the fees to film that the State of Montana’s film office charged as well, whatever they are..

I agree with Chris though, we could have saved them money and we already know what it takes to sell Saabs.
