Göran Hägglund on Swedish Government & GM Talks

Posted on 16. Feb, 2009 by in 2000-2009

Göran Hägglund, the leader of the Swedish Center Party (not the Jöran Hägglund of the Swedish Ministry), says today that the Swedish Government cannot put money into a company that does very little business in Sweden.

He also says that the conversation with General Motors is at an interesting stage, but if there is another option on the table, he has no idea what it is. I actually thought he was more integrated into these discussions than I thought.

Here is his piece from Trollhattan, Sweden’s own TTELA:

Dual on Saab’s future

“We are anxious to keep the automotive industry,” said Social Affairs Göran Hägglund on Saab crisis. At the same time he says “we can not shovel money into a company that does not do any action in Sweden.”

– We are extremely keen to find a way that allows us to maintain the extremely important vehicle industry in Sweden. We have enormous knowledge structure as it comes to finding ways to keep here, “said Social Affairs Göran Hägglund (KD) during a visit in Vänersborg in the afternoon.

– The conversation with GM is in an interesting stage, but if there is one or the other option, I have no idea of. And we can not shovel money into a company that does not do any action in Sweden. The outcome of these talks I would not have any idea about, “said Göran Hägglund.

    Hello!

A short clarification: Jöran Hägglund (Swedish Ministry of Enterprise) is not the same person as Göran Hägglund (leader of the Swedish party “Centerpartiet”)!

Haha. Sorry, I made a mistake. I am too tired. He is the leader of the Swedish Christian Democrats. Maud Olofsson is the leader of the Swedish Center party. Now I made it even more confusing than it was =) But maybe no one cares really, hehe. It was more to say that I believe Jöran that is in charge of the discussions with GM is still working on it…

    JV,

No worries, thank you. I will leave it be for now, and will update the references once new material comes in.

    Best,

    Ryan
