Apparently, there are yet more Saab’s catching on fire these days, and this one appears to have been started by someone’s Ipod Nano that overheated on the seat according to Maclife.
I find it funny that the writer said that the car looked like it was behind a jet engine, which made me think of that 2008 Saab 9-3 ad titled “Reborn”, where quite literally a Saab 9-3 gets melted from a 2007 to a 2008 exterior facelift due to the afterburner of a Saab Gripen jet.
Here’s what they had to say and click here to see the interior damage to the car due to the fire too.
Maybe Saab Automobile should begin moving away from the phrase “We’re the Apple of the Automotive Business”?
A Swedish 9-3 Saab owner came to find their car designed by folks who make jets looking like it was left behind a jet engine. Investigators believe that the fire may have been caused by a nano that was left on the seat. It isn’t clear though if the iPod was minding it’s own business when it burst into flames, or if it was left charging on the seat when it decided to go out with a bang and take as many European car parts as it could along with it. Either way, this is pretty rad. How many Zunes do you know that can also double as weapon?

I hardly ever listen to music, and I don’t do i-pods, but talk-radio can be hazardous to you health, as well. Before I drove the SPG everyday. I owned a 1985 900 Turbo, when one day I was Rear ended by a 5000 lb 1973 Chevy Caprise at 65 mph. My rear wheel locked-up, and I spun around and flew down the road for 300ft. As I went backwards, I thought I was a camera, on a F-18 taking off from a carrier!
The radio blew out of the dash, right in the middle of the Rush Limbaugh Show, hitting me you know where!
An iPod? Just how hot must a device get to ignite the seats’ material? I don’t believe this to be correct. These materials must be flame-retarding. That’s really weird. To me, looks more like vandalism.
Nice to see the structure of the active headrest system. Never new it was also on the backseats in a 9-3.
Please stop this negative publicity about SAAB’s on fire. SAAB, your sponsors and the readers do not need this!
The press is now reporting it was the device itself, not the car.
It would have been nice to hear that directly from Saab Automobile AB themselves here on Saab History however, to set the record straight.
