Gunnar: Upon further consideration, it could be that there is a distinguishing at least in the US between a hatchback (tailgate) and a fastback (conventional lid). What I wanted to express was that the jag looks like a hatchback, though it is actually a fastback. Maybe the above cited source wanted to refer to fastback, not hatchback, i.e. styling elements, not funnctionality. However, after having seen the 9-5 at IAA, I cannot see such resemblance.

Jag hatch? Unless we're talkin' the current XK coupe, perish the thought. Works on a Saab, though ;-)

Tim,

I sent a note to JMK and will get back to with their reply.

Thyl,

I agree with you, it's strange that they called it hatchback styling.

I would like to see a Jaguar hatch though. :)

A hatchback, unfortunately, is only a styling; it does not imply that there is a tailgate, nor an expandable trunk. Have a look at the Citroen C6 or the Jaguar XF. According to (accurate?) information I got on IAA, the tooling is finished (the cars presented in Frankfurt were from a test run done in Rüsselsheim at Opel), so no changes to the body until it is released :-((

otoh, it is somewhat strange to even mention the hatchback tradition, since imho, the new 9-5 does not look like a hatchback any more than the old 9-5 did.
