The All New Saab 9-5 Began Production This Week

The all new Saab 9-5 began production this week at the Saab factory in Trollhattan according to Saab insiders as referenced on the Wall Street Journal

The timing of this was interesting, given it was the same time that the Koenigsegg Group terminated their agreement to buy Saab from GM.

“We built the first new 9-5 sedan in our factory yesterday, which was launched in Frankfurt in September,” argued Hellgren.

“If GM hadn’t been at all interested then they would have cut long ago,” said Akerlund.

One of GM’s options is to simply wind up production of the brand, as it did with its US brand Saturn, but Akerlund and Hellgren were optimistic that GM won’t pull the plug.

“I expect that GM will want to hear what we think but I believe that they probably will still want to sell us.”

“Now it’s up to our owner, GM,” said Hellgren.
