REF: GM TO WIND DOWN SAAB

Dear Swedish Government;

It has come to our understanding that it is ultimately up to you to ensure that the bidders for Saab Automobile have a letter of authority granting them the critical European Investment Bank (EIB) loans.

We have also learned that you continually fail to provide such guarantees which may include the recent bids that came in last night to Deutsche Bank who are brokering this transaction for GM.

We are writing to you because we want to know why you repeatedly ignore the messages from GM as indicated in today’s press release? Furthermore, why do you believe it is morally, economically and socially acceptable to sit down and let a large global industry leader in your home country die while you pretend to help? Moreover, how can your ignore the voices from your country and continue on as their appointed leaders, by showing continued indifference towards your fellow constituents and Saab Automobile?

You are now in the spotlight around the world and we are watching your inaction, which continuously and systematically tears apart Saab Automobile.

What is your ultimate goal and objective? We have been trying to send you a messages all along but you seem unable to understand them. GM is serious, they will wind down Saab.

What more needs to be done, so that you understand that there is an urgent need for action? You have known about this for over a year and now are showing up in Detroit to provide more information this weekend?

We will not sit down and let Saab Automobile go quietly into the night.

We will continue to keep contacting you and keep the pressure on.

Signed,

Respectively,

Ryan Emge / Saab History

Think it best if this collective group of useless wannabe pallbearers just stay home. Let the adults handle this.

I’d like to echo FAW’s comment about asking Swedes to contact their government. Here in the US, we’ve been attempting this for some time, for whatever good it does. Unfortunately, our elected officials more concerned with starting/continuing wars to secure dwindling oil resources than supporting an open and honest free-market that will support competition between companies, such as Saab and other forward-thinking car companies, for the goal of creating truly sustainable solutions to the automotive energy and pollution problems.

Bob- I hate that your comments are making me laugh, because they are so true, and that makes them so much more tragic. Thanks for the laughs on this dreary and depressing day.

    All together now: Sell SAAB!

I recently came across a formal photo of the Sweedish Government. I noticed a lot of liberal females running the joint. Does that answer anyones questions?

Actually, the entire government that you are referring to, is in fact a Conservative party, both men and women. Just because they wear funky glasses, and women have broken through the glass ceiling in Sweden, doesn’t make them liberal.

So, their inaction has nothing to do with their gender, it has everything to do with their party affiliation and the lack of support the Save Saab campaign has received from their constituency.

They are not making decisions in step with your peoples best interest. What is left after SAAB and Volvo are gone? Meatballs??? Conservative is a party and not a mind set.

It appears that the glass from the ceiling is falling on your heads. No more SAAB or Volvo, whats left meatballs? They may be part of a Conservative party but they are making a very big mistake for their people. They are not truly conservatives just in the party for vote gathering. Sorry… I do like the glasses though, makes them look real smart ;o)

FAW is correct in that THIS Swedish government is to the right of Grover Norquist on letting the free market rule, and Maud is no worse than the men from Reinfeldt and Bildt on down.

It also seems the Swedish people do not care, it appears that national pride is considered politically incorrect across the political spectrum in Sweden.

Sweden did not even do a ‘cash for clunkers, i.e. scrapppage’ program in 2009. Which means SERBIA did more for SERBIA’s auto industry (Fiat 500 assembly plant) than Sweden has done for Saab Auto, Volvo, Scania, and Saab Aero combined.

Maud believes workers can be retrained for new jobs in folk culture, e.g., reindeer farm eco-tourism.

The stupid americans srew up and now you want the Sweden Government to help correct GM mistakes? They have every right to be upset with what GM did with the Koenigsegg deal. They lied to Koenigsegg by making them believe that Saab was an independent from GM. They tried to fool Koenigsegg, but when the deal was almost done, the Swedish dicovered that Saab operations were too mized with GM’s. Koenigsegg canceled the deal because of GM lies and then the americans tried to blame Koenigsegg.

And what about Opel deal? GM can’t be trusted and that’s probably why the Sedish Governemt doesn’t want to get involved in the deal.

Saab’s dead is only GM fault. Don’t try to blame others.

    Diogo,

This is not an American thing, it’s a GM thing. The Swedish Government have been also not doing their part, we have to all come to terms with that.

I am an American and I was rallying to send a message to GM to sell Saab earlier this week as shown here.

    http://www.saabhistory.com/2010/01/06/the-%e2%80%9csave-saab%e2%80%9d-promotional-video-coverage-of-event/

Just because I am an American, doesn’t mean that I have to agree with an American company. I think and operate independently as an educated individual and make my decisions accordingly.

    Ryan,

I admit that i’ve gone a little too far by saying that the “stupid americans srew up”, but my intention was never to ofend american people.

Maybe the Swedish Goverment could have done moore, but I completly understand their stand. After what GM did in the Opel/Vauxhall business who can blame them?

I’ve seen some people trying to blame the Swedish Goverment for the end of Saab. Saab have been negleted by GM for decades. It’s a shame to see that they have driven it to a point of no return. Don’t blame Sweden for not saving Saab, blame GM for destroying it.

I think that the swedish were FUCKING stupid, because they sold Saab to GM in december 1989. And then when GM started to make new Saab 900 in 1994 the quality of the brand collapsed. They used Opel parts and all the little and big things which were fine before, were fucked up by GM. I mean from body designing to mechanical technology. When the swedish owned and made Saabs the brand was before it’s time. They invented great turbo technology APC system and EVERY little things were done perfectly from bottom to top. So, why did they sold their jewelry to GM in 1989. It just doesn’t make sense to me. All I hope now that some reliable and dedicated company will buy Saab and brings it back to the level it was before GM started to destroy it.

GM started to destroy good brand since they purchasaed it 1989 and started to make it 1994. Swedish were stupid to sell it to GM. I hope now that some dedicated and reliable company will buy it and brings Saab back to that level where it was before GM bought it.
