Trollhattan, Sweden’s TTELA reports that Jan Åke Jonsson, and Victor Muller’s SAAB 93′s are preparing for the Mille Miglia rally which starts this Thursday.

Here’s a snippet of the report below:

Jan Åke Jonsson, and Victor Muller are set in the classic Mille Miglia Rally, starting on Thursday.

The duo will tune similar Saab 93 models from 1957, since the historic rally was resurrected in the early 1980s, only cars manufactured prior to 1957 will be able to compete.

- It is a difficult race where it comes to being in the right place at the right time. More strategy than the gas in the ground, “said Peter Bäckström, head of the Saab museum who is the service person during the rally.

Mille Miglia is tough on the drivers because the cars aren’t “plush”, and the days are long.

But I couldn’t dream of a more beautiful experience.

If anyone has the opportunity there is a great 2 hour documentary for this race, find it and watch it.

To me it is so wonderful that Saab will be represented at the Mille Miglia.

Nothing says class, culture, heritage, and cars like the Migilia.

This is a true gentleman’s race and an event that celebrates some of my favorite things in life… Wine, Food, Women, Cars, and Sunshine.

If I had one wish I would pick to compete in the Miglia even before World Peace.

Have fun guys and represent us well !!!

    Todd,

Agreed. It would be ideal for Saab History to cover this historic day in Saab’s history.

Let’s think, filming them on the road, interviewing them along the way as it comes, right here on SaabHistory.com

I’ve sent a few e-mails into Saab Automobile AB in Sweden about this. We’ll see what their response is.

It is a tough event to cover.

It isn’t really a spectator event.

The local people just hang out on the side of the road in front of thier houses and farms and wave to the drivers.

Each town that they drive throguh just basically shuts down and the whole town celebrates the cars coming through.

It would be tough to cover but it could be done.

If I went to the Miglia I would want to cover the regional Wine, Cheese, Fish and Meats.

In between long conversations about the food I would take pictures of the cars whizzing by….
