Saab Quantum IV at Swedish Car Day

At Swedish Car Day, Saab Automobile USA brought their entire Heritage Collection along once again and in that collection, I managed to get a snapshot of their Saab Quantum IV Formula. I still cannot believe I managed to see two Saab Quantums in person in one day! What an event!

The SAAB “Quantum”

Since I have been on the topic of rare Saab models like the Sonett, I should also discuss the Quantum. The Saab Quantum project was first introduced in 1962 and lasted until about 1965. A total of 5 models were produced with the help of president of Saab Motors, Inc. Ralph Millet and colleague Walter Kern at IBM.

I anticipate receiving some additional photos in the next day to articulate the visual differences between each model.

* Quantum I – only a rolling chassis (one built).
* Quantum II – with a water cooled, three cylinder 750 cc Saab two-stroke engine with three Solex 34W carburetors giving 57 hp (43 kW). The top speed was 155 km/h and it did 0 to 100 km/h in 16 seconds. Only two built.
* Quantum III – redesigned II, two built.
* Quantum IV – scaled down to one seat. Available as kit car.
* Quantum V – 1965, one built.
