Cherry Hill Saab, a longtime Saab History advertiser and supporter who recently attended the New York Auto Show, that will be starting up advertising efforts here again shortly, have just received their first 2010 model year Saab deliveries.

The two deliveries that traveled from Sweden via Wallenius Wilhelmson to the Port of Newark, New Jersey consist of a Saab 9-3 Aero convertible as well as a 2.0T convertible in silver and carbon gray.

Today marked their first new products in over 400 days, a significant milestone for them with their new agreement with the newly created Saab Cars North America organization under Spyker ownership.

Saab's Future Design "Form No Longer Follows Function"

Posted on 08. Apr, 2010 by .

It has been a while since I’ve covered a topic so dear to me, and that topic is design. Design is an area that I’ve personally spent a decade working in professionally prior to the launch of Saab History.

When it comes to Saab design, not the past or present, but specifically the future as illustrated with the all new Saab 9-5 , I’ve had a significant challenge in interpreting this new vehicle as a continuation of Saab’s historical “form follows function” design approach. It took me a while to realize that there must have been a very good reason for this.

However, today, I had one of those “ah hah” moments, after watching one of the best design documentaries of our time in my opinion, a film titled “Objectified”. This film highlights the design of many companies including Apple, the company that Saab has indicated that they aspire to be like in the car business.

This new design approach that Apple has applied to their latest products involves “form not following function”, a complete departure from Saab’s historical “form follows function” approach as previously indicated.

As we continue to see new products unveiled from Saab, one can easily guess that the design will include many design elements and cues that may not specifically serve a functional purpose, but should serve as a unique Saab way to express the new design language that began with the Aero-X concept car all the way back in 2006.

The success of Saab’s future design will depend on the complete execution of this new design language in parallel to the continuity of traditional “form follows function” design in the key Saab areas that we’ve all come to expect.

Saab Sighting Of The Week: Saab Enthusiast’s 9000 Aero

I frequently see Saabs throughout the Portland, Maine region, but this past weekend was quite a rare occurrence.

soc2008.jpgThis week’s Saab sighting of the week, is none other than a 1996 Saab 9000 Aero. This Saab sighting was not just another person’s transportation, it was clearly owned by an enthusiast. It was a nice sign to randomly see a Saab with Connecticut plates touting both a 2008 Saab Owners Convention sticker in the rear window as well as an Aero emblem on the hood.

By sharing this information here on Saab History, we can hope that the rightful owner of this car can give us some more insight into their interest and passion for the Saab Automobile brand.

For the past few years, the former Saab Automobile USA organization partnered with USA Networks on the Miami, Florida based “Burn Notice” television series.

This series included a 2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible in black for Fiona, one of the leading characters in the film. This arrangement was managed by former Saab Automobile USA Advertising & Promotions Manager, Steven Haener.

The following film has been recently located that provides you a behind-the-scenes look at the Saab 9-3 Aero convertible being filmed in high-speed chase scenes in addition to some of the details as to why Saab partners with USA Networks in Burn Notice to begin with.

I quick look at the official Burn Notice website results in no current details as to the continued partnership with Saab in the United States now that they are a new organization with new leadership.

Saab Enthusiast Shares Excitement About Saab Ownership

Posted on 17. Jul, 2009 by .

I recently received an e-mail from Kurt Kraus of New Jersey about a great new 2009 Saab 9-3 Aero Sport Combi with XWD he has acquired.

I am delighted to hear that Saab History has helped him continue his Saab ownership, it means so much to me and I am proud that he really appreciates what I’ve been doing all of this time.

I must say, his new ride is quite nice, having the great opportunity to test drive one myself back in April, thanks to Saab Automobile USA. It looks like he’s already enjoying it, with that great “Made in Trollhattan” sticker already properly placed on the right rear window.
