The “Save Saab” Gathering In Southern, California

The Southern California “Save Saab” convoy has just gotten back to Saab History with a Saab count of about 30.

The event seemed to go quite well for them as they described in their summary below. For more photos, click here.

We took about a 120 mile road trip up the California coast, to near the small town where the *Sideways* movie was filmed. We had about 30 cars in attendance, and had after party at a local tavern that was originally a stage coach stop in the pioneer days of the West Coast of America.

It was a balmy 55 degrees F despite how much clothing people appear to be wearing, and since we didn’t think there was a support convoy in Hawaii or Alaska, we were probably the last Save Saab Caravan still at it (the caravan part at least).

The all new Saab 9-5 that was shown in San Francisco up to this weekend, is continuing at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. This information has been confirmed with a telephone call learning that the display and the car is being set up as we speak.

It is good news that this show circuit continues with the all new Saab 9-5 to be on display as scheduled. There have been other reports that the Saab show is canceled, which are incorrect.

In this critical time for Saab Automobile, people need to verify their reports.

Saab Dealerships In Canada To Continue

Posted on 18. Nov, 2009 by .

Saab History has covered the status of Saab dealerships in Canada earlier this fall, but now there seems to be a good resolution in place.

Evidently, according to the global and mail, the dealerships will continue by Saab Cars North America working directly with distributor, International Fleet Sales, Inc. of California to make it all happen.

While this is positive news, how is it that so many of these dealerships have been told that they are to close, and now many months later, they are asked to stay?

Saab’s history in Canada started in 1975 with a distributor, so continuing this plan will not be any different than it was since it began.

Here’s the story below.

Saab, one of four brands being jettisoned or sold by General Motors Co., will continue in Canada under new ownership and a smaller dealer network, Canadian dealers say.

Posted on 30. Jun, 2009 by .

Saab History has just received a very nice slideshow representing the memories and accomplishments of former President Of Saab-Scania Of America, Bob Sinclair.

Robert J. Sinclair, former CEO of SAAB in North America and beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2009. He was a gifted pianist, raced sports cars, offshore powerboats and his beloved Volvo Burro dunebuggy, and had a lifelong passion for fine automobiles, motorcycles, classical music and native american fishes which he avidly studied and collected for his aquaria. His good friend John Stein assembled this slide show of snapshots from his life, which was played at a celebration of Bob’s life on June 20th 2009 near his home in Santa Barbara, CA.

Next Generation Saab 9-5 Arrives In United States

The Next Generation Saab 9-5 arrives in the United States, as seen by a Saab enthusiast, and has taken some incredible photos including never before seen interior photos that show the material types of the center console and seat material as well. You can see a wood grain, tan leather seat color, as well as some idea of what the shifter/center console looks like in a production sense.

Here is what this individual had to say about his Saab sighting, let it be known that this is the first Saab sighting of the next generation Saab 9-5 in the United States for the record.

I work at a hotel in AZ and we get Camo prototype cars from GM staying here all the time. They Drive from Yuma, CA to Phoenix, AZ because it gives them all kinds of different road conditions and elevations changes. I saw two this morning and was caught taking pics as the workers were getting in. They didn’t speak english, only swedish but one guy pointed to the hood and said “280.” It’s hard to tell how it will look when it’s done because they purposely make it look unattractive now. Here it is. One of the guys was also driving the new Cadillac SRX with the turbo v6, probably the same one as in the Turbo X.

Saab Enthusiast,: Rick Dreher has recently spotted the Saab-Mavic team at the Amgen Tour in California this past weekend and took some photos for us to enjoy!

I must admit, spotting the Saab-Mavic team with their bright yellow 9-3 SportCombi like I did back in November of 2008 at Shaw Saab, is hard to miss!

Here is what he wrote as well:

Yes, I took them Saturday at the Amgen Tour of California Prologue in Sacramento. The race continues through the 22nd.
