True Electric & XWD – Mutually Exclusive Technologies?

As a continuation of the ongoing trend where we’re seeing front-wheel drive only when it comes to alternative powertrains, it seems like Electro Engine may follow suit.

We’ve previously learned that there are no diesel TTiD options for Saab 9-3s equipped with the Haldex XWD (Cross-Wheel Drive) system, so one can only wonder if the same is true for True Electric as well?

So far, the specifications provided by the two vehicles on Electro Engine’s website show a Saab 9-3 Convertible TE (only front wheel drive) as well as a front-wheel drive only Saab 9-3 SportCombi TE.

With this logic, a Saab History frequenter asked the question, what about XWD with True Electric? Saab History has sent the question to the folks at Electro Engine to see what they say.

Update: Here is what they had to say in response, which is very positive!

Yes definitely.

Electroengine is working on such solutions but it will probably not be an
option in the first round.
Kind regards,
Christer
