Saab History’s European Correspondent, Etienne, who covered the Saab 9-3x launch in Geneva earlier this year, is at it again, this time covering the Saab Days event in Trollhattan, Sweden. Etienne will be covering this event through his flickr photo account and his blog for us, so please check them out!

Saab Days will run from Friday, July 17th until Sunday the 19th. This event will not be an official Saab Festival like 2007, but more of a club organized event.

However, Saab Automobile and the Saab Car Museum will help support it says Peter Backstrom, curator of the Saab Car Museum in his e-mail to Saab History below:

Trollhättan, Sweden will be celebrating what is known as “Saab Days” on June 17th-19th, 2009. This event will not be an official Saab Festival like 2007, but more of a club organized event.

However, Saab Automobile and the Saab Car Museum will help support it says Peter Backstrom, curator of the Saab Car Museum in his e-mail to Saab History below:

Hello Ryan!

The Saab days is an initiative from the Swedish Saab Club, Saab Turbo Club of Sweden and Club Sonett Sweden. It will take place July 17-19 in Trollhättan. I will be coordinated with the Fallens dagar Festival and the Midnight Sun rally.

For more information about the event itself, see the clubs websites. They would like to point out that it will not be an event with the same level like the Saabfestival, But I am convinced that it will be worthwhile for international visitors to book tickets!

I have good reasons to believe that you already have made the conclusion that it will be no official Saabfestival 2009. Although we are not organizing “Saabens dagar” we will of course support it as much as we can from Saab Automobile / Saab Car Museums side.

The Midnight Sun Rally will have a overnight rest at the Saab Car Museum in Trollhättan between Friday & Saturday and a total of 180 cars will participate. Among them around 40 Saabs from 2-stroker to V4:s and 99 turbos. Driven flat out! with 2 special stages around Trollhättan. See www.midnattsolrallyt.com for more info.

That all I have right now!

Trollhattan, Sweden’s Plan For The Saab Car Museum

There have been a lot of concerns lately with the news about Saab Automobile’s parent company, General Motors, that the future for even the museums, namely the Saab Car Museum in Trollhättan, Sweden as well as the Saab USA Heritage Collection in Sterling Heights, Michigan are thought to be at risk.

According to the curator of the Saab Car Museum in Trollhättan, Sweden, Peter Backström, the Saab Car Museum will be safe in any event that either General Motors Or Saab Automobile AB were to no longer exist, because the museum itself is actually owned by the town of Trollhättan, Sweden, not the corporations.

This is an excellent fail-safe continuity plan for the Saab Car Museum and it is logical, because these cars have been a part of the history of the town, which is why it is actually a separately owned facility.

Smart move to separate the collection from the corporations and into the hands of the people!

The folks from Saab Automobile Germany and the local dealership in Frankfurt that hosted the classic Saab car show this past weekend, have provided Saab History photos of the event.

As you can see with the photos, there were a number of vehicles present, by local Saab Enthusiasts in Germany as well as Switzerland. On hand, was Peter Backstrom, curator of the Saab Car Museum in Sweden as well as Andrew Dyson, Saab designer at GM Europe.

During the event there was live music provided by Swedish singer Pia Fridhill, and even a live demonstration of a Saab 99 restoration by a master technician at the Saab Zentrum Frankfurt.

Evidently, there was even a parts market, books on hand in addition to model cars and tv clips showing vintage Saabs in action.

Overall, it looks like it was a great time had by all that were in attendance.
