Saab Cars North America Announces Pricing on 2010 Model Year 9-3 Vehicles

* Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices reduced on all 2010 model year 9-3 variants
* 2010 model year vehicles to begin arriving in showrooms in April

DETROIT – Saab Cars North America today announced that manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing will be reduced for all 2010 model year 9-3 vehicles. These are the first 2010 model year Saab vehicles produced for the U.S. market and closely follow the recent acquisition of Saab Automobile AB by Spyker Cars NV

An exciting line-up of model year 2010 vehicles will arrive during the next few weeks to dealer showrooms across the United States. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for every 2010 model year 9-3 variant has been reduced anywhere from 4 to 12 percent compared to model year 2009.

“This pricing action allows Saab to be in-line with the market and maintains accessibility of Saab’s rich Swedish heritage, innovation and responsible performance for our many loyal owners, enthusiasts and potential new customers,” said Mike Colleran, President and COO, Saab Cars North America.

Topping the list for 2010 is an all-new 9-3X premium cross-over model. Powered by Saab’s 2.0 liter turbocharged engine and available with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, the 9-3X offers sporty performance without the typical penalty of high fuel consumption. Add in the standard cross-wheel drive (XWD) with electronic limited slip differential (eLSD) and raised chassis, the 9-3X delivers an all-road driving experience you can take with you no matter where your road leads. The 9-3X starts at $37,800 MSRP.

The 9-3 Sport Sedan is available in two trim levels, 2.0T and Aero, and both can be specified with either front wheel drive or with Saab’s Cross-Wheel Drive (XWD) system. Sport Sedan starting prices range from $29,725 MSRP for the 2.0T to $38,940 MSRP for the Aero model. Both cars offer a host of standard equipment with the Aero adding sport-focused features such as 17” alloy wheels, more aggressive front fascia, interior trim with two-tone leather seats, thicker sport steering wheel, a sport tuned chassis, and dual bright exhaust tailpipes. OnStar with Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity is available on 2.0T models and comes standard on the Aero. A Bose six-CD audio system and XM Satellite Radio are also standard Aero content. Memory driver seat and rear park assist are available on Aero models in the optional Premium Package.

Saab History Welcomes Exclusive Motors As Sponsor

Saab History welcomes Exclusive Motors in Los Angeles as a premium sponsor. The owner of the company, Jeremy Morrissey is a proud supporter of Saab History, and is no stranger to Saab’s history.

Morrissey started out as a Saab mechanic at a dealer no longer in business where he was a quick study. In a short amount of time, he transitioned into a sales rep working at what was at the time, the top selling Saab dealership in the United States, Ramsey Saab, as shown in the 1985 Saab Scania of America dealership development video (4:48). At this dealership, he became one of the top selling sales reps in the country, working there from approximately 1988 until 1995 under the leadership of the owner, Ray Van Duren. His experience was unique as Van Duren was quite an influential dealer at this time where he pushed for variations of Saab products that sold such as the Monte Carlo yellow convertible, platana grey convertible, power seats in the 9000 in 1989 while ensuring that the SPG would continue production in 1990 and 1991 model years. After speaking with Jeremy, he seems to have an emotional attachment to the experience with Ray.

Following this launch of his career for nearly a decade at Ramsey Saab, he continued to explore other Saab dealerships to apply his unique marketing skill in New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Spending a significant amount of time in the North East, he decided to move out to the good weather in sunny California, to become the general Manager of Saab of Santa Monica from 2001 until 2008. Here, he turned this dealer into the #2 volume dealer in the country and #1 in the Western region.

As the economy hit the automotive landscape hard in 2008, he decided to finally open Exclusive Motors, his own independent facility. He reflects on the time he has had working with Saab since the early eighties and says that “he has made some of the best friends he has ever had” and believes that “the close knit nature of the Saab dealerships allowed for good relationships amongst employees and customers to be there through thick and thin”

Taking on the ideas of how the dealership network can be influential, Morrissey contributed to a number of advertisement campaigns over the years.

In addition, he has contributed to product additions much like his former boss did, ensuring that the then new 9-5 came equipped with leather door panels opposed to the cloth it was introduced with. It was at the 1997 Jubilee in Sweden where he spoke with the then President of Saab Automobile AB, Bob Hendry, which ensured that this product change became a reality. Other product initiatives also included the design package in the ’02 9-3 SE convertible.

When he looks back at all of the great times he has had with Saab here in the United States, 1992 was his best year overall. That being said, it was a former colleague of his that put him in touch with Saab History and eventually took ownership of a vehicle that meant a great deal to him, that was the 1992 Saab 900 Turbo project. Spending a significant amount of time and resources to personally restore this vehicle, I was very happy to learn that it would be going to a good home in a place where it would be cared for. Since the sale, I have learned that it has been further restored utilizing original parts that he has been saving for 18 years such as a new windshield, leather seats, etc. Today, Morrissey proudly displays this vehicle in the showroom at Exclusive Motors.

Today, he continues his pursuit in carrying the Saab torch by restoring nearly 15 classic Saab models to their original appearance, with original parts he has been storing away for nearly 20 years. These vehicles include very low 1987 900 Turbo rose quartz, 1991 9000 Turbo 5-Door, 1991 Beryl Green SPG, 1992 900 Turbo 3-door, 1992 9000 CD Griffin Edition, 1993-1997 Aero & Anniversary Edition, 1993 900 CE, 1993 900 Emola Red convertible, 1994 900 Eucalyptus convertible and 1994 900 CE Convertible.

A historian in his own right from his experience and passion from working with Saab, Morrissey is thrilled to see Saab owned by an exclusive and unique brand.

Jan Åke Jonsson & Victor Muller Thank Saab Dealerships

Posted on 28. Jan, 2010 by .

Jan Åke Jonsson & Victor Muller Thank Saab Dealerships and have reached out with this video above and letter below.

To: All U.S. Saab Automobile Dealers

As you have heard, GM has announced that it has reached a binding agreement to sell Saab Automobile AB to Spyker Cars NV. Saab Automobile AB will remain the parent company of the newly formed U.S. operating company, Saab Cars North America (SCNA). General Motors, Spyker and the Swedish government worked very hard to create a deal that would secure a future for our unique and iconic brand. All of us are extremely pleased with this outcome. We anticipate closing the sale in the mid-February timeframe subject to certain closing conditions, and applicable regulatory approvals. Please be aware that all wind-down activities have been suspended at this time.

The following is a link to a leadership video from Jan-Ake Jonsson, CEO, Saab Automobile AB and Victor Muller, CEO, Spyker Cars NV with their thoughts for you on the future of a new Saab. The video can be viewed at http://kse.se/saab and no password is required. Please view this video and share it with your teams.

We know you have many questions regarding the new Saab and how it will operate in the U.S. markets. While we cannot possibly answer all those questions in a letter format, I want to let you know now that it is our intent to assign all current Saab dealer contracts to the new SCNA Company at the time of the sale. In the near future, we will schedule an all-dealer conference call to answer as many of your remaining questions as possible.

Thanks for your patience and commitment during this long process and we look forward to creating a new chapter for Saab together with you and your team.

All 218 Saab Dealerships In The U.S. To Remain

Posted on 27. Jan, 2010 by .

It has been confirmed again to Saab History, even after we all learned this with Mr. Muller earlier, that all 218 Saab dealerships in the United States will remain.

This is much better scenario than the previous plan with Koenigsegg.

Here’ the news below:

We have received word that under the Saab sale by GM to Spyker Cars the entire US dealership network will be retained. That is a far better outcome than had Saab been sold to Swedish’s Koenigsegg Automotive which sought to reduce the dealer network to less than half of current.

The Saab sale is due to consummate on February 15 so something could still fall through, as it has so often in the past. Yet as it currently stands, Saab dealers who seek to retain their franchise under Saab’s new Spyker Cars ownership should to be able to do so. Seems to be better news for ALL Saab dealer than some wind-down dealers with go-forward GM brands – Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac.

Today is a brighter day for Saab dealers, their employees and their unique brand and customer base!

The “Save Saab” Gathering In Paris. France

Posted on 23. Jan, 2010 by .

Saab owners and enthusiasts in France gathered in Paris for their “SAVE SAAB” event. As I hoped, the Saab enthusiasts gathered with the Eiffel tower in the background.

I am am really impressed with the attendance as some of the people spearheading the event thought there would only be a small turnout. Excellent job in putting together a gathering like this is relatively short notice!

Here are photos from David Morgan, RBM Performance, site sponsor of Saab History. Absolutely impressive job everyone!

Here’s David’s summary of the event.

Well I counted 114 Saabs and about 250 people. Paris was grey and rain, the atmoshere was cheerful but in that there was No organisation except for a time and point of rendezvous! At first the main Paris dealer planned it and then SAAB France took over but did nothing except get a bunch of Police there so as to block the south-east corner of La Place de Concorde for us. After an hour or so it just fizzled out. Everyone took of in their own directions, I felt bad for those who had dreiven a couple of hundred kilometers.

Well there was some press there and plenty of photographers but this was not Holland !!

Here’s some raw video footage from RBM Performance

Saab History Travels To Detroit To Join "SAVE SAAB" Group

Posted on 04. Jan, 2010 by .

Saab History will be traveling to Detroit to join up with the others in the “SAVE SAAB” campaign, thanks to Cold Brook Saab in Skowhegan, Maine. You may recognize them from earlier, as they are the Saab dealer that have the 10-year partnership with Shipyard Brewing Company here in Portland, Maine.

The purpose of the “SAVE SAAB” campaign is to gather nearby the GM world headquarters at approximately 1pm to show unwavering Saab spirit. The Saab owners and enthusiasts traveling (some great distances) in short notice, will be lining up their Saab cars in the parking lot, holding signs, taking group photographs and speaking to the press about important it is to sell Saab.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I cannot see a future without Saab and if there are enough Saab owners, enthusiasts parked outside of the GM Renaissance center in Detroit along with good media coverage, we could really show them how serious we are in wanting Saab Automobile to be sold so that it will have a bright future.

For more details on this campaign, please visit this link.

Jan Åke Jonsson Sends Letter To Saab USA Dealers

Jan Åke Jonsson Sends Letter To Saab USA Dealers

Dec 11th 2009

Dear Saab Automobile USA Dealer,

It is probably an understatement if I say that the last few weeks have been challenging. The exit from the sale process by the Koenigsegg Group was a big surprise to all of us. In particular, given the good progress that was made during months of intense negotiations. That is now history and we need to, with great speed; attempt to secure our future through another buyer.

The decision by the GM Board was the best that we could have hoped for. As a consequence, we are now in intense negotiations with potential candidates with an ability and willingness to become our new owner. All parties, including the Swedish government, are now very focused on running not only in the same direction but, more importantly, with even greater speed. Before the end of the year, we have to identify a new owner for Saab, but also be very close to finalizing the deal. The good news is that a lot of work needed to close a sale has already been done through the previous negotiations.

I understand it is not completely ‘business as usual’ but I wanted you to know that limited production is running and the development of the new 9-5 continues. About two weeks ago, the first 2010 9-5 came off the line in Trollhättan with a very high quality level.

We know that we will have a decision very soon and I appreciate your continued loyalty and commitment as that is what provides the basis for the start of a new Saab.

Thank you.

Saab Automobile AB

Jan Åke Jonsson
Managing Director
