The Daily Tribune has recently visited the new headquarters for Saab Cars North America in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Here is the article below and keeping with the current trend, I will not be editorializing this article.

Company president is pleased with new headquarters.

ROYAL OAK — Mike Colleran, president and COO of Saab Cars North America, looked at hundreds of buildings for a new headquarters, sometimes not knowing if the company “born from jets” in 1937 would survive the automotive downturn.

It was a long and bumpy road from the towering General Motors offices at the Renaissance Center in Detroit to a one-story gray structure in a suburban industrial district.

However, the Saab saga has a happy ending with a new era and tagline — “move your mind” — unfolding in the surprisingly sleek interior of a renovated warehouse at 4327 Delemere Court.

Sitting behind his blond desk with a single line of paperwork stretching neatly from top to bottom, Colleran described the tumultuous time for the Swedish-based company’s 3,400 employees worldwide, including the few dozen who handle sales, service and marketing in Michigan.

“It was a rollercoaster ride, no question about that,” Colleran said in an office where photographs of Saab cars wait to be hung on white walls. “It started in late 2008 when GM announced a strategic review of the Saab brand.”

Update: Saab Cars North America Possible HQ In Royal Oak, MI

Posted on 20. Oct, 2009 by .

Saab Cars North America’s public hearing last night went well as the first stage in securing their new headquarters in Royal Oak, Michigan.

This first phase involved creating an “Industrial Development District” which was passed by a 6-0 vote! This is good news!

The second phase will involve the tax abatement hearing, now that the district has been approved and that public hearing will be on November 16th.

It is interesting that in the records, SCNA is referred to Saab Automobile USA. Perhaps their new name doesn’t go live until January 1st, 2010 officially?

Here is the public report posted thanks to the folks at the City Commission.

Saab Cars North America Eyes New HQ In Royal Oak, MI

The Oakland Press in Royal Oak, Michigan has recently published an article where they interviewed the region’s planning director Tim Thwing about Saab Cars North America’s (SCNA) new headquarters in the United States.

According to the article, it states that the new office, if the approval takes place on October 19th, could quite possibly be at 4327 Delemere Court, Royal Oak, Michigan. This location includes a recently renovated 13,000 s.f. single story grey brick building with offices for 50 people housing sales and marketing functions and access for test vehicles with a large overhead door as shown above. The new facility would include a five year lease from Ronnisch Construction, the owners of the facility who would plan on re-occupying it once the lease ends. The idea would presumably be once Saab is completely independent from GM over those five years, they would be able to relocate back to New England.
