Former Saab Designer, Anthony Lo, who I interviewed this past September in Frankfurt and previously in Detroit a year earlier, has left GM to take a new position with Renault according to Car Design News

Lo, led what people refer to as the “concept car era” for Saab under GM’s ownership, beginning with the 9-X in 2001, 9-3x, 9-3 Sport Hatch, Aero-X, 9-4x BioPower, 9-X BioHybrid and ending with the 9-X Air in 2008.

He brought a lot of design skills to the table with Saab and it was a pleasure to have him on board.

Simon Padian, Saab’s Brand Design Chief along with Kaj Zackrisson, Saab-Salomon’s professional skier are featured in a new video urging people to get out and test drive a new Saab 9-3x.

Tynan’s Saab, a recent advertiser of Saab History this past year and a supporter ensuring the coverage of both the 2009 Saab Owners Convention in Copper, Colorado as well as the all new 9-5 launch in Frankfurt, Germany, thought it was about time to showcase their Spyker C8 Laviolette.

This vehicle, initially discussed back in the summer way before the Spyker-Saab deal came about, involved dialogue with Victor Muller, who helped him facilitate the acquisition. This particular model is a silver 2008 Spyker C8 Laviolette #162, silver with MY 09 additions such as a charma sound system, ipod adapter, lamborghini steering wheel, etc.

As you can see in the photo, the vehicle proudly stands in the showroom alongside his recently restored 1992 Saab 900 Turbo that was also present at the recent convention. It’s a very suiting photo of quite possibly what other Saab dealership showrooms around the United States may look like in the near future.

A special thanks for Tynan Saab’s support of Saab History and recent information about this acquisition.

Absolutely stunning turnout and photography!

5 before 12 clock

Deafening honking sound is heard for the symbolic clock at exact 11:55 front of the Clock headquarters of General Motors (GM) Europe in Rüsselsheim.

More than 60 SAAB vehicles have been brought to a rally here from all over Germany in position to give her testimony SAVE SAAB the right face and GM dissuade them from their plan to let the tradition die SAAB brand. The demand is simple: to destroy rather than to GM to sell the SAAB brand to SPYKER from Holland. This final bidder has rectified its offer several times at the request of GM, and now awaits the decision by GM. In addition to the fully developed SAAB 9-5, which is already running from the tapes in the Swedish Trollhätten to wait another two new models at its launch.

The convoy drove SAAB conspicuously equipped with flags and banners by the skyline of Frankfurt and here also expressed his support for the more than 10,000 SAAB-workers expressed that directly and indirectly involved in the production of SAAB vehicles and at a liquidation of the mark would lose their jobs.

At the same time the world took place more than 35 convoys, the statement is the same everywhere:
SAAB SAVE!

Saab History has recently attended the 2009 the New England Auto Show in Boston, Massachusetts to see the all new Saab 9-5. The last time we were at the Boston Auto Show was in the fall of 2007, when the North American premiere of the Turbo-X took place.

Having experienced the global debut of the all new Saab 9-5 back in September, this event was of course a smaller display, naturally as it is a continuation of the North American premiere which began in Miami during October.

Upon entering the show, we headed directly to see the all new Saab 9-5, which was a delight to see. This premiere in Boston, was the first time a new Saab 9-5 was in New England in twelve years. The last time a new Saab 9-5 was shown to the public for the first time in New England was during 1997 Saab Owners Convention in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. […]

The North American Saab 9-5 Debut & Press Conference

This past Friday, the all new Saab 9-5 made its North American debut at the Miami Auto Show.

At this minimalist event with all of the right Scandinavian modern touches, Mike Colleran, the new COO for Saab Cars North America, presented to the media, the new era for Saab Automobile along with the all new Saab 9-5.

This press conference took place just over a month since the global debut of the all new Saab 9-5 back on September 15th in Frankfurt.

This press conference, although naturally smaller in scale than the global conference was in my opinion as an observer, was much more inspirational. This press conference left me with a good feeling about the future for Saab when I finally got to hear the following words from Saab after all of these years, coming from none other than Mike Colleran.

The words were “Welcome back to the company that thinks a little differently.”.

This welcoming customers back quote, reminds me of my interview with Knut Simonsson and is beginning to resonate with me in terms of this humble and gentle approach Saab is making with new the new era.

A job well done by Mike Colleran and staff at the new Saab Cars North America. As you continue to listen and welcome your customers back as it appears you are doing, you will succeed.

A thank you to Alejandra of Blue Hope video productions in Miami for providing the video footage as well as Bruce W for providing the photography.

Today, the all new Saab 9-5 made its North American debut at the Miami Auto Show in Florida.

Saab History’s architect/Saab enthusiast Bruce W. was kind enough to attend the event and take photographs for us for those that could not make it to the event.

There were approximately 50 people in attendance, quite smaller than the global debut last month in Frankfurt. The mood was upbeat and the presentation was much better than any other automobile manufacturers at the show.
