New Salem Saab Announces Albany Speed Shop

Posted on 18. Dec, 2009 by .

Longtime Saab History advertiser, New Salem Saab announces Albany Speed Shop.

GM may have discontinued Saab but New Salem Saab will not discontinue our Customers!!

Dear Saab Friends,

December 18, 2009 is a sad day for sure. GM has decided to discontinue Saab as a brand and will commence an orderly wind-down just like Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer.

Rest assured the Carl family is deeply saddened as this will close an era in our lives which is 48 years old. However, this is not the end. We have been planning for this just in case it came to realization. Very soon my wife Melissa and I will be opening Albany Speed Shop really close by to our current location. Inclusive within this new entity we will continue to provide independent Saab service for your families Saabs. Although we will only be able to provide warranty service for a short period of time, as GM will appoint a GM dealer to handle your warranty needs locally, Albany Speed will be up and running to provide a continuance of Saab service using both OEM and aftermarket parts. We still carry the tools, technology and years of experience, something GM cannot take away.

We have been a leader in customer satisfaction and fully intend to continue the trusted service for your families Saab into the future. Now, without the strings of a franchise, we will be able to transform back into ideologies which helped us build this great dealership with its employees and loyal customers. Our plan is to retain our employees, great customer service under a better pricing structure than ever before.

Melissa and I appreciate your loyalty and understand your concerns. We have the same emotions to handle. We both remain positive and look forward to greeting you in our new first class arrangement in the very near future. Until then, we will continue operations in our current location which will include warranty repairs but not include a Saab sales department.

If you have questions that you think I can answer, please phone the dealership and pass through to extension 122. I will return your call as quickly as I can and offer what information I know is fact.

Thank you for being our friends and customers. We truly are disappointed in the decision GM has made regarding Saab. However, the Carl family has no plans to leave you standing alone. If fact we plan to support you well into the future. Of course we are more then capable in repairing any vehicle on the road today and would be grateful if you considered us for your routine maintenance on any make vehicle you have.

GM Announces The Resignation Of GM President & CEO Fritz Henderson, Replaced By Edward E. Whitacre Jr.

Posted on 01. Dec, 2009 by .

At the recent GM Press Conference, Edward E. Whitacre Jr. announced that he would replace President & CEO Fritz Henderson who has just resigned. There is no indication that Fritz Henderson or Edward Whitacre will continue to be part of the 13-member GM board at this time.

The Saab community in the United States will remember hearing from Fritz Henderson back at the 2007 Saab Owners Convention where he spoke to us at the GM Heritage Center for dinner that he was a Saab guy and even his Wife was a Saab enthusiast.

There was no other new Saab news at all other than the resignation announcement other than the confirmation of what we already saw in the press statement earlier.

* Confirms outreach from several interested parties for Saab, but would not indicate which ones or how many

* Confirmed, if no viable buyer comes, closure of Saab would pursued at end of December

Here is a good piece from the Washington Post followed by GM’s statement on the resignation of Fritz Henderson.

GM’s Henderson Steps Down as CEO

General Motors chief executive Fritz Henderson, who took over the troubled automaker during its government-backed bankruptcy after former chief executive Rick Wagoner resigned at the urging of the White House, has stepped down, the company announced this afternoon.

Henderson will be replaced on a temporary basis by GM chairman Ed Whitacre, who became chairman in June, famously saying, “I don’t know anything about cars.” Whitacre is the former chief executive of AT&T.

Interestingly, it was Whiteacre, not Henderson, who appeared in the most recent GM television commercials.

GM Statement Attributed to To Chairman Ed Whitacre

At its monthly meeting in Detroit today, the General Motors Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Fritz Henderson as Director, President and CEO of the company.

Fritz has done a remarkable job in leading the company through an unprecedented period of challenge and change. While momentum has been building over the past several months, all involved agree that changes needed to be made. To this end, I have taken over the role of Chairman and CEO while an international search for a new president and CEO begins immediately. With these new duties, I will begin working in the Renaissance Center headquarters on a daily basis. The leadership team – many who are with me today – are united and committed to the task at hand.

I want to assure all of our employees, dealers, suppliers, union partners and most of all, our customers, that GM’s daily business operations will continue as normal. I remain more convinced than ever that our company is on the right path and that we will continue to be a leader in offering the worldwide buying public the highest quality, highest value cars and trucks. We now need to accelerate our progress toward that goal, which will also mean a return to profitability and repaying the American and Canadian tax payers as soon as possible.

In closing, I want to once again thank Fritz Henderson for his years of leadership and service to General Motors; we’re grateful for his many contributions. I look forward to working with the entire GM team as we now begin the next chapter of this great company.

Koenigsegg Submits Business Plan & Loan Application To The Swedish Government & European Investment Bank.

Posted on 12. Aug, 2009 by .

The leader of the Koenigsegg Investment team, Augi K. Fabela has met with the Swedish Government today and has submitted the Koenigsegg-Saab Automobile business plan according to Sweden’s Dagens Industri. In addition, the application for the loan to the European Investment Bank has also been submitted today.

Now the ball is in the court of the Swedish Government to accept the business plan as they requested earlier this month and endorse the loan application as a guarantor for the $600 Million dollar European Investment Bank loan.

Once both parties agree on the business plan and the loan application, the Koenigsegg-Saab arrangement will be ready to go by September 30th.

Koenigsegg has met with government

Published 2009-08-11 22:03

Representatives of Koenigsegg Group has today met with the government to convince the business plan for Saab is that the consortium and actually have the money required.

Ministry of Industry would like to officially neither confirm or deny today’s meeting between Secretary of State Jöran Hägglund and representatives of Koenigsegg Group. But a meeting has taken place, the government wanted to clear up the uncertainties surrounding the ownership and financing.

– We had a need to get a grip on what they think and what there is of money behind this, “says a centrally placed source at the Industry Ministry to TT.

The data in the media that one of the owners of Koenigsegg Group should have sold its shares will now be fully investigated. Now the government has a clear idea of who is behind the consortium. The source would, however, not confirm details of the dropoff he would be the American businessman Mark Bishop.

Jöran Hägglund has previously asked for a “credible financing” to the state should put up guarantees for the deal between Koenigsegg Group and Saab-owner GM.

HÃ¥kan Lind, Head of Department, says that the work of investigating the question of possible state guarantee for Saab’s loan application from the European Investment Bank (EIB) of 4.3 billion goes as planned.

– We have the ambition to have all decisions clear to the Bank Board meeting September 22, “says Lind.

TTELA Report Koenigsegg Deal To Close In September?

Posted on 07. Aug, 2009 by .

TTELA are reporting that Saab Automobile AB’s Eric Geers says that the Koenigsegg deal, we all thought would be completed prior to the August 20th restructuring date, is now more likely to close in September.

I have e-mailed Eric Geers for clarification on this posting and hope that this is not true, because really, we’re all supposed to wait yet another month?

Interestingly enough, Wikipedia has a new entry under “Christian_von_Koenigsegg”, where the contributor has stated that September 30th, 2009 is the date when the EIB deal with Koenigsegg is supposed to be finalized. This may further provide more credibility to this story as well.

The longer the deal takes to close the worse off everyone is as a result.

Clearance close between GM and Koenigsegg Agreements likely in September

TROLLHÄTTAN Externally there is silence from the parties to the transaction between GM and Koenigsegg group.

The work seems to float on as planned. It is approaching a decisive enough, think Paul Ã…kerlund, IF Metall.

Recently, more and more wonders why nothing happens in the process of finalizing the agreement between GM and Saab’s prospective new owner, Koenigsegg group.

But the calm is deceptive as the people who TTELA have talked to. The work runs according to plan.

– They are working on. Soon it will hopefully be written in the paper with the new owners. But the date, I do not know, “says Anette Hellgren, leader of the Union of the Saab in Trollhättan

Paul Ã…kerlund, Union Leader for IF Metall in Saab, agrees.

– As far as I know with the contacts I had during the holiday floats it. It is approaching a decisive enough.

He points out that the longer the negotiations, the more parties become involved. This allows it takes time.

– I do not think that the definitive agreement will be available until September.

Saab informationschef Eric Geers is of the same view.

– It follows plans. A closure on the sale process in September, says Eric Geers

Sweden’s Mona Sahlin Says Swedish Government Should Provide More Help to Saab Automobile AB

Posted on 31. May, 2009 by .

Sweden’s Mona Sahlin, the Social Democratic Party leader that walked with the Saab employees at the torchlight procession in Trollhattan this past winter, says, according to SVT, that the Swedish Government should have been more helpful to Saab Automobile.

Sahlin: Saab should have been more help

Social Democratic party leader Mona Sahlin believe that Saab should have had more help from the government.

We would have been able to act in the same way as the German government with generous scrapping to get the trade in environmentally friendly cars, “she says to the SR’s Eko.

Saab’s situation could have been different if the government like the German assisted ‘their’ car to get new owners, believe Sahlin.

According to Sahlin Saab still has many interesting stakeholders.

Swedish Government’s Mona Sahlin Expresses Support For Saab Automobile AB

Posted on 20. Mar, 2009 by .

The Swedish Government’s leader of the Social Democratic party Mona Sahlin, our friend and support of Saab Automobile who rallied in the streets of Trollhattan back in February, is rallying again for the success of the company.

This continues to show that the Swedish Government is still split on supporting Saab Automobile until a new buyer comes along.

Here is the piece below from TTELA.

Published March 19, 2009 Updated March 19, 2009

Mona Sahlin is consistent with Trollhättans commissioner Gert-Inge Andersson (S) – Swedish automotive industry has a future and Saab is an important part of it. In addition to the visit at car plant did Sahlin to meet trade union and political representatives and to see the stadium construction in Vänersborg.

Mona Sahlin will give Saab a chance

TROLLHÄTTAN / VÄNERSBORG once was Mona Sahlin on the ground in the crisis, Trollhättan and once again was the message:

– Give Saab a chance.

The opposition leader believes in the car industry’s future and recommend measures in the form of loan guarantees and scrapping premium.

The day began with a visit to the Arena Vänersborg.

– Very Exciting, great and otherwise, was the verdict from Mona Sahlin.

She looked forward to coming back and look at bandy at a later date.

But it was not building an arena that was the main reason for opposition leaders Sahlins visit in Trollhättan and Vänersborg. The afternoon she declined to even visit Saab and talks with both unions and CEO Jan-Åke Jonsson.

Criticism of Government and Enterprise Minister Maud Olofsson’s handling of the situation persists.

– If I had been responsible, I had said I think that Saab has a future. Europe needs to buy more cars.

Mona Sahlin, the return that she believes in the business plan. And that the State should provide loan guarantees and the introduction of a scrapping premium to help Saab to survive until they found a long-term owner.

– If Saab is lost, it costs taxpayers a lot more than to give Saab a chance.

Swedish car industry’s future lies as Mona Sahlin in the development of cars in the fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly segment. And the fight is about so much more than just jobs in the car. Pins Sweden automotive industry disappears skills could fertilize other industries.

At Volvo, the union accepted the reduced working hours with reduced pay in the fight for jobs. Mona Sahlin did not want to take away from that method.
– State evade responsibility, while the union is fighting for. It occurs in the absence of a strong a-cash. I read not metal for this, I read the government.

Yesterday’s visit coincided with the publication of a survey done by Synovate. The show declining confidence in the leader, but said to take the figures.
– There are polling numbers, and there are real numbers.

With real figures were she, for example, the unemployment statistics.
– The government has options to show that you can manage the job crisis while also having the voters’ confidence.

Swedish Government’s Mona Sahlin, A Proponent For Saab Automobile AB’s Success

Posted on 27. Feb, 2009 by .

mona.jpgSweden’s Mona Sahlin, A Proponent of Saab Automobile, has debated with Maud Olofsson on STV recently and this past Thursday, has demonstrated amongst 3,000 strong in support of Saab Automobile in Trollhättan, Sweden.

Mona Sahlin, is the first female ever to become leader of the Swedish Government’s Social Democratic party and a true supporter for Saab, challenging her political opponents wherever possible. I hope she can work to influence her constituents in the Swedish Government to ensure that Saab Automobile emerges from reconstruction in a better situation financially, and that the transition for a new owner is smooth and well supported.

This is a time when people that want Saab Automobile to live on, need to stand up no matter what and do what’s necessary to ensure a successful and viable future.

It is great to see her support our Saab Automobile brand with the rest of us.
