All New Saab 9-5 Showcased At New England Auto Show

Posted on 02. Dec, 2009 by .

Saab History will be traveling to see the all new Saab 9-5 at the New England Auto Show in Boston, Massachusetts today.

As you may know, the all new Saab 9-5 made its global debut back on September 15th in Frankfurt, Germany.

A month later, it made its North American debut in Miami and has since been on tour in Europe, and also here in the United States with recent stops to San Francisco, Los Angeles and now Boston!

This preview of the all new Saab 9-5 will be its first in North East region of the United States. The last time the previous Saab 9-5 made it’s first visit to the North East, it was twelve years ago in Waterville, Valley New Hampshire during the 1997 Saab Owners Convention Jubilee.

If you have the chance to make it to Boston within the next four days including the weekend, I strongly urge you to make the trip!

Saab History Visits Pioneer Saab Dealership

Posted on 30. Nov, 2009 by .

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to visit Pioneer Saab in South Deerfield, Massachusetts which was the first Saab dealership that I had the opportunity to experience many years ago.

Having grown up Western, Massachusetts and owning my first Saab while experiencing this dealership, I began to realize why many others like me, continued their ownership and loyalty to products that come from Saab Automobile in Sweden. While the products have been great, it was the dealership like Pioneer Saab as I continue to learn, that significantly contributed to keeping me and many others in the region with Saab, over the years.

Dulles International Airport Sells Saab 900 Friction Tester

Posted on 20. Aug, 2009 by .

Dulles International Airport in Virginia has auctioned off their 1990 Saab 900 Turbo that had only 14,909 miles on it for $16,335 USD!

This friction tester like so many others such as Albany,NY, Burlington, Vermont has been in service for years and will hopefully be replaced with another more modern Saab 9-5 Friction tester like the one that Boston, Massachusetts has.

I hope that the lucky bidder finds themselves enjoying this fine piece of machinery with so much life left to it, because they certainly paid a pretty penny for it and it may be one of the most expensive classic 900 purchases in recent years.

For more information and photos of it, please visit the auction website directly while it’s available.

1990 SAAB 900 TURBO | 2.0L | 4-Cylinder

VIN: YS3AL36L3L7024926

Miles: 14,909 !!!

Hours: 207

Keys: YES

This vehicle has been removed from active service as a Runway Surface Friction Tester. It is being sold with the test equipment and manuals seen in the photos.

The Grenier Family in Leicester, Massachusetts have submitted their Saab Family Fleet Photo to Saab History this week.

They have quite the collection as you can see above, and now they’re added to the list of others such as the Koehnen, Frisch and Fagen families. I think it’s very cool to see that they have both a Saab 9-5 as well as an old Saab 95 in their collection too!

Here’s their message that arrived with the photos over the weekend. If you are a Saab family, click here to submit your Saab family fleet photo too!

Saab History Regains Enthusiasm With Saab 900 Turbo

This past weekend, I managed to get the classic 1992 Saab 900 Turbo out and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of driving it over the course of memorial day weekend with my wife. You should have seen the nods we got on the highway, and interestingly enough, the majority of them from not Saab owners, but Toyota Prius drivers and passengers!

Three days of driving this classic Saab, really brought back the enthusiasm for the 900 Turbo, in contrast to the daily driver 1997 Saab 9000 CS. The handling, the passing ability, the visibility and the turbo rush were all unique characteristics reuniting me with the thrill of driving.

Outside of the driving, I took advantage of the Thule bike rack adapter, thanks to Saab USA parts, to carry our gary fisher mountain bikes for use through some incredible trails in New Hampshire.

The pinnacle of the experience was a trip last taken 10 years ago in a similar Saab 900 to an old drive in movie theater located in Northfield, Massachusetts which has been open almost as long as Saab Automobile has been manufacturing cars. The best moment was just after we arrived where we parked in between a minivan and an SUV. While we finished popping the hatch, folding back the seats and laying down to watch the movie under the stars, my wife said, “Wow, the classic Saab 900 really is the best!” It literally made my weekend!

NPR’s Car Talk Discusses Saab Twice This Saturday!

Posted on 03. May, 2009 by .

I was listening to National Public Radio’s “Car Talk” this past Saturday morning with my wife in the 97 Saab 9000 CS as were headed to take our 1992 Saab 900 Turbo into the shop for repair and spring preparation.

Car Talk, a famous program with brothers Tom & Ray Magliozzis based out of Cambridge, Massachusetts (Boston region) is on just about every Saturday morning at 10am EST here in the United States.

In this past weekend’s piece, two of callers both discussed Saabs, one in need of repair, another with a desire for a Saab and the now defunct european delivery program.

I strongly urge you to listen to both of these broadcasts by clicking on the links below for some enjoyable listening.

NPR’s Car Talk Discusses Saab Many Times This Saturday

Show 918, May 2nd, 2009

Ken From Berkeley has a drinking clutch in his 1991 Saab 9000.

Cathy in Seattle’s deep desire to buy a Saab 9-3 Convertible.

More Highlights.

This week on Car Talk we welcome back one of our favorite wackos, Paula from Portland, Maine, for a round of Stump the Chumps.

Paula claimed that the only way she could get her Subaru to start in the dead of winter was by laying a blanket across the hood.

Tom and Ray offered an alternative starting method that didn’t involve bedroom accessories. We’ll find out if they were right– and if Paula’s neighbors have stopped whispering about her behind her back. Also, Cathy in Washington faces the ire of her family over her deep desire to buy a Saab, Ellen in Massachusetts’ key ring turns her father apoplectic, and we get a lesson in how not to use a Dremel tool from Chris in Minnesota. All this and more on this week’s encore edition of Car Talk.
