The Saab Automobile USA Dedicated Delivery System

The process of purchasing a new vehicle is important, and over the years Saab Automobile has done an incredible job at showing the level of committment and premium experience they can with a program called the dedicated delivery system.

According to the GM fleet website, the definition of the Saab Dedicated Delivery system is the following:

* The Saab retailer will conduct a thorough inspection of the new Saab prior to delivery. At the time of delivery, the Saab Sales Consultant will present a complete tour of the vehicle and a package of ownership materials.

This package of materials provided at the time of delivery has included a number of items over the years, such as simple accessories, clocks, hats, to books, etc, but that’s not all that it included.

Robert J. Sinclair, the former president of Saab-Scania of America (1979-1991), was very much a part in this process back when he was President. During his time, he went as far as to include letters to each customer providing that level of support and assistance when taking ownership of a new Saab.

Loyal Saab Owner Dissappointed With Saab 9-5 CPO

Here is a really incredible writeup from a customer who has really been dealt an unfortunate situation from a Saab dealership regarding a certified pre-owned Saab 9-5 that was purchased.

It appears that there is a discrepancy between the 112-point cpo checklist and what may or may not have actually occured with the vehicle acquired.

I mentioned back on July third that a Saab customer was dissappointed with a Saab 9-5 CPO he purchased. At this time, I am happy to mention that he has received some good results as of now.

The Saab Certified Pre-Owned 112-Point Inspection List

As a follow-up to the summary of the Saab Certified Pre-Owmned program with Saab Automobile USA, here is the entire referenced 112-Point Dealership Inspection List for your reference:

This list is quite comprehensive, so take your time and and use this as a reference list if nothing else.

A great read if you have a terminal illness because each moment reading this, will feel like an eternity.

GM Certified Brands Inspection Checklist Guidelines

The purpose of these guideitnes is to provide some additional helpful tnstructions to dealer personnel assoctated with the preparation of vehicles, which are intended to become GM Certified. It is the dealer’s responsibility to ensure that qualified and trained technicians am assigned to prepare vehicles. Keep in mind that the intent of the inspection checklist is to provide a comprehensive set of vehicle checks, which when performed along with a quality reconditiontng will achieve a quality used vehicle, which is ready to be sold as GM Certified. Additionally, copy distribution of the Inspection. Checklist can be found at the bottom of each form. Please follow this process.

1. CHECK VEHICLE HISTORY (GM VIS) AND CARFAX

Input the vehicle’s VIN into GM Vehicle Information System (GMVIS) or Saab warranty system, and check the history for frame damage, title branding and other problems, which may cause the vehicle to not be a candidate for certification.

2 CHECK FOR OPEN SAFETYCAMPAIGNS

Check GMVIS or Saab warranty system for open recall I safety campaigns. Complete the repair on the recall I safety campaign prior to selling the vehicle as a certified.

3. OWNER’S MANUAL WARRANTY BOOKLET PRESENT

Ensure that the vehicle is equipped with an owner’s manual & warranty booklet prior to delivery of the vehicle to the customer.

4. SEAT BELTS/ RETRACTORS/ AIR BAGS

(Check seat belt wear, retractor operation, etc.) – Ensure the onboard diagnostics indicate the system is operational. Inspect all seat belt buckles and latches and retractors to ensure they operate smoothly and that the seat belts show no signs of damage, fraying, cuts or deterioration.

The Saab Automobile USA Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Saab Program is a program where you can buy a previously owned Saab that met a lengthy list of requirements:

“Before your Saab is cleared to leave the runway, it goes through a 117-plus point inspection. To win the designation of Saab Certified Pre-Owned, a vehicle must meet the following criteria:

* Comprehensive road test evaluation
* Inspection of electrical, brake, cooling and fuel systems
* Up to date on all scheduled maintenance requirements
* Interior and exterior inspected and detailed
* Carfax report available upon request at no charge
* Saa dealer for 117-point inspection list

The Requirements:

To begin with, a Certified Pre-Owned Saab must satisfy a long list of requirements: the vehicle must be less than four years old, and it cannot have more than 60,000 miles on the odometer. And not only must the Saab be in excellent mechanical condition at the onset, but it must meet high visual standards as well.

Any of the following will immediately eliminate a vehicle from the Saab Certified program:

# Over 60,000 miles

# Older than 2004 model year

# Warranty claim inquiry discrepancy

# Unresolved problem found on Carfax Vehicle History Report

# TMU (True Mileage Unknown) odometer reading

# Frame, fire, and/or flood damage

From there, factory trained Saab technicians take over and exhaustively flight check and update the vehicle. Through a rigorous and extensive 110-point inspection/refurbishing process, each Saab is inspected, reconditioned, and detailed to ensure that it meets the highest possible standards – indeed, as high as your standards. Only then can it be Saab Certified.

Saab Automobile Supporting 2008 Tour De France

Saab Automobile’s advertising and promotional activities this year seem to be all about cycling events particularly with their sponsorship of the Mavic cycling team who are participating in the 2008 Tour De France.

I was checking out the 2008 Tour De France website and see Mavic as one of the sponsors, so I guess this is how Saab was able to get in as a sponsor, where they are supporting one of the teams that are participating in the event.

I was wondering where all of the advertising dollars are being spent and as you will see with the cycling event, it doesn’t just stop there, just look at the Saab USA ads on bicycling magazine.

For an international event such as the 2008 Tour De France, I am surprised that it appears that Saab USA’s tagline “Born From Jets”, is being used as it is a global event as I thought that Saab Automobile AB as a global company was sponsorsing it and not just Saab Automobile USA.

If this event is sponsored by Saab Automobile AB with global marketing dollars, wouldn’t the “Move Your Mind” Global campaign slogan be used instead or is “Born From Jets” now being applied as the global tagline?

Saab Automobile USA Mid-Year Sales Figures

Saab Automobile USA Sales have been recently reported as being down 51.7% this past June since June 2007, Saab’s 60th Anniversary Year. Overall, Saab sales in the U.S. year-to-date are down 28.6% since last year.

If you look back, you can see that there were a lot more incentives last year in comparison to this year, especially with Saab dealerships needing to remove MY07 inventory in order to replace them with MY08 units.

Another factor that has not been increased however, has been the advertising and it shows. If you ask anyone in the United States today, especially any Saab dealerships, they will tell you that Saab advertising in the U.S. is basically non-existent.

All of this means that Saab is basically the best-kept secret in the automobile industry today and it’s a shame because so much that has gone into the company over the years to develop and produce some incredible products and now no one knows about them and sales are finally starting to reflect this.
