New Products Arriving For U.S. Saab Dealers, Top Priority

Posted on 26. Feb, 2010 by .

According to the Oakland Press, getting new vehicles to the 218 216 Saab dealerships in the United States is the first priority for the new stateside organization, Saab Cars North America.

In addition, it’s also good to hear that leasing will be resuming for these new products as that will significantly help Saab dealerships throughout the United States.

Here’s a few excerpts from the article:

Colleran said Saab’s top priority is to get vehicles to its 216 dealers across North America. “We’ve got to get some product to our dealers (as soon as possible). We’ve got some cars pre-built and they should be at dealers by end of the first week in March,” Colleran said.

“We’ve also been out of the leasing market for some time and important for to resume leasing,” said Colleran, adding Saab is now working on a new deal with GMAC to get back into leasing.

Saab Cars North America Updates Customers

Posted on 24. Feb, 2010 by .

Mike Colleran, President & COO of the new Saab Cars North America organization, has provided an update this morning on the Saab USA website.

This is a delight to see for so many of us after this process, and it’s important that these strong confidence inspiring messages continue for customers.

February 24, 2010

Dear Saab Owner,

moveAt Saab, we’ve always been proud of our ability to see challenge as opportunity. Our sense of independent, “anything is possible” thinking allows us to look at things from a different perspective and to bring unconventional ideas to everything we do. Certainly, the past few months have been as challenging as any in our 73-year history. But thanks to the optimism and dedication of our Swedish leadership and Saab loyalists like you, we are thrilled to announce that Saab is here to stay.

Without the support of our customers and fans, the recent purchase of Saab Automobile AB by Spyker N.V. would not have become a reality. We’d like to extend our sincere appreciation to you and to the thousands of fans who rallied, convoyed, blogged and otherwise helped carry the torch to save Saab. We are humbled and we are grateful, and we want you to know it.

Looking ahead, our vision remains clear: Saab is committed to creating inspiring cars for independent thinkers who are searching for something more than just another car. In a few months, we will bring a new, completely redesigned Saab 9-5 sedan to North America. Built with the latest technology and progressive Scandinavian design, we believe the 9-5 rivals the best of the premium imports.

In the near future, we’ll also introduce the 9-4X, a fun-to-drive luxury sport crossover that befits the Saab badge. These new vehicles will join our highly regarded 9-3 family of vehicles.

Again, many thanks for your continued support and inspiration. We look forward to writing the next chapter of our history and bringing you a different perspective on vehicles for many years to come.

Saab Sighting Of The Week "1977 Saab EMS Barn Find"

Posted on 26. Jan, 2010 by .

This week’s Saab sighting of the week comes from James Dale, the one who recently purchased a beautiful 1993 Saab 900 CE from Swedish Motor Cars.

He’s provided us a photo of an extremely impressive “barn find” in Canada. This vehicle is a 1977 Saab 99 EMS with 55,000 original miles on it!

I guess the deal with these “barn finds” are just as legend has it, you find them in some old barn, virtually untouched and need only minor work with with extremely low mileage. I can’t believe there are still “barn finds” for Saabs here in North America as Scandinavia is another story.

Great job James! Glad that you got your Brother to buy it! Here’s the rest of the story by James:

I responded to an ad on the weekend stating There was a 1977 EMS for sale- no photo included. I answered the ad and drove about 60 miles out with my brother to see it. Met this kind gentleman who opened a barn up to reveal this gem perfectly preserved ems. He supplied his original receipt for $8,300.00 Canadian dollars off the Saab showroom floor. He bought it when he was 32. I made my brother buy it and we drove it home. We cannot believe this gem with full service records was sitting in this Barn waiting 55,000 miles on it- he loved it so much he wanted to preserve it. We assured it was going to a good home. 4000.00 canadian We are still pinching ourselves.

Genii Capital Plans To Submit Bid For Saab Today

Posted on 07. Jan, 2010 by .

Saab History has confirmed through Bloomberg & TTELA’s interview, that Luxembourgh based Genii Capital plans for a bid to Saab Automobile by 5pm today.

Apparently, there is a Swedish entrepreneur behind the company and has been working on this for nearly a year to buy Saab. – It takes time to get all the pieces in place, “says the source according to TTELA.

Genii Capital is a private investment company that operates in North America, Europe & Asia. They specialize in development of innovative ideas in brand management, technology, entertainment and automotive industries. This past December they announced their intent to purchase the Renault F1 racing team.

When Saab History tried to contact them today, they were answered the phone, but were unable to comment as their spokesperson would not be available until Monday.

Here is a piece by Bloomberg below:

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) — Genii Capital plans to hand in a bid for General Motors Co.’s Swedish Saab Automobile unit today, Genii spokesman Lars Carlstroem said in a telephone interview.

SCNA Is Now Back To Saab Automobile USA

Posted on 16. Dec, 2009 by .

Saab History has recently learned that Saab Cars North America (SCNA) has changed their name back to Saab Automobile USA.

The SCNA name was apparently a specific part of the Koenigsegg deal, now terminated, interestingly enough.

I didn’t necessarily mind the new name, even if it resembled the Saab Club of North America name, but moving forward, isn’t there a new organization established already, why not keep the name?

I’ve sent some e-mails to the folks at Saab Automobile USA, but have not heard anything as of this writing. If I do get a response that I can share with you, I will update this piece.

Saab Dealerships In Canada To Continue

Posted on 18. Nov, 2009 by .

Saab History has covered the status of Saab dealerships in Canada earlier this fall, but now there seems to be a good resolution in place.

Evidently, according to the global and mail, the dealerships will continue by Saab Cars North America working directly with distributor, International Fleet Sales, Inc. of California to make it all happen.

While this is positive news, how is it that so many of these dealerships have been told that they are to close, and now many months later, they are asked to stay?

Saab’s history in Canada started in 1975 with a distributor, so continuing this plan will not be any different than it was since it began.

Here’s the story below.

Saab, one of four brands being jettisoned or sold by General Motors Co., will continue in Canada under new ownership and a smaller dealer network, Canadian dealers say.

Saab History Donates Saab Information Archive To VSCNA

Posted on 12. Nov, 2009 by .

Saab History donates an entire Saab archive of press releases, accessories catalogs, brochures and Saab Magazines to the Vintage Saab Club Of North America (VSCNA).

The VSCNA, formerly known as the New England Sonett Club is the premiere vintage Saab club in North America and it is my great pleasure to see this collection go to a good home.

The time in building this material over the years has been significant. It was important to ensure that the collection continues as a complete unit, so it was only logical that it go to the VSCNA.

Here is the official press release from the VSCNA

It gives me great pleasure to announce the VSCNA has accepted a valuable donation from Ryan Emge DBA SaabHistory.Com.

Ryan’s donation includes nearly 100 Lbs of Saab Literature dating back to the early 70’s. The collection includes Press Releases, Saab Accessory Catalogs & Saab Soundings magazines. The VSCNA Archives will retain one copy of each item and make the rest available to it’s membership for the cost of shipping and handling. This generous donation will provide much needed archival information to our members for many years to come.

Thanks Ryan!

Best Regards,
Bruce Turk
President VSCNA
