I want to say, today was from what everyone that attending including the press have said, a great success. We had over 50 people attend which is phenomenal, and over 20 press members from local and national interviewing us.

Everyone that attended included folks from Cape Cod & Hingham, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio, Wisconsin and as far away as Iowa! The true Saab spirit really was well represented and you could feel it.

The folks at GM were very supportive of this initiative today and despite the weather, we all hung out outside in the parking lot with the GM world headquarters as our backdrop for nearly 2 hours in the blistering cold and snowy weather to send our message.

The message we believed we were successful in sending was for GM to “Sell Saab”. We hope that the press coverage will be as positive as it can be in covering this event.

The job is not yet done as there is one last remaining aspect to the “Save Saab” campaign and that is for GM to Sell Saab.

It was clear today that they got our message, now they just need to do the right thing and complete the deal.

More to come!

Saab Dealerships In Canada To Continue

Posted on 18. Nov, 2009 by .

Saab History has covered the status of Saab dealerships in Canada earlier this fall, but now there seems to be a good resolution in place.

Evidently, according to the global and mail, the dealerships will continue by Saab Cars North America working directly with distributor, International Fleet Sales, Inc. of California to make it all happen.

While this is positive news, how is it that so many of these dealerships have been told that they are to close, and now many months later, they are asked to stay?

Saab’s history in Canada started in 1975 with a distributor, so continuing this plan will not be any different than it was since it began.

Here’s the story below.

Saab, one of four brands being jettisoned or sold by General Motors Co., will continue in Canada under new ownership and a smaller dealer network, Canadian dealers say.

Saab Exclusive Dealer In Ohio Closes Doors

Posted on 11. Jun, 2009 by .

An exclusive Saab dealership in Fairfield, Ohio has closed its doors, however, it will be transferring all but two of its employees to the franchises other nearby store.

This brings the Saab dealership count in the United States down to 222, with exclusives at 74.

Saab of Fairfield has closed, with operations transferred to Just Saab of Cincinnati in Madisonville.

“The decision was made for the health of the organization,” said A.J. Murphy, sales manager for Just Saab of Cincinnati. “We are not in danger of going out of business.”

The consolidation meant two people lost jobs. Just Saab of Cincinnati and the Centerville operations of Just Saab of Dayton employ about 40.

“It didn’t make any economic sense to have two locations with double the overhead,” Murphy said. All warranty or service contract work formerly managed by Saab of Fairfield is now managed by the two remaining Saab franchises.

“Saabrina” The 1995 Saab 900 Electric Car Project Ends

I first covered Mark Ward of Missouri’s 1995 Saab NG900 Electric project titled “Saabrina“, back in December of 2006 when the project really got underway.

Over the past few years, I have illustrated the incredible progress he has made such as the drivetrain in September of 2007, the battery install in December of 2007 to the recent actual driving footage of the car this past February.

My most recent coverage included a nice interview with him here that covers all sorts of commonly asked questions.

Here is his final installation to the Electric Vehicle Community regarding this absolutely devastating blow to development. I should indicate that, he beat Saab Automobile to task by actually making an electric vehicle that runs and has proved it this past spring.

I am very sympathetic and my heart is with him as he indicates on his final blog entry.

Very Sad News to report much after the fact.

At 3:00 A.M. on the morning of April 17th 2008 a fire of unknown origin broke out in my garage. The Saab, all of my machinery and all of my work for 3 years was destroyed.
