Mike Colleran, President & COO of the new Saab Cars North America organization, has provided an update this morning on the Saab USA website.

This is a delight to see for so many of us after this process, and it’s important that these strong confidence inspiring messages continue for customers.

Dear Saab Owner,

moveAt Saab, we’ve always been proud of our ability to see challenge as opportunity. Our sense of independent, “anything is possible” thinking allows us to look at things from a different perspective and to bring unconventional ideas to everything we do. Certainly, the past few months have been as challenging as any in our 73-year history. But thanks to the optimism and dedication of our Swedish leadership and Saab loyalists like you, we are thrilled to announce that Saab is here to stay.

Without the support of our customers and fans, the recent purchase of Saab Automobile AB by Spyker N.V. would not have become a reality. We’d like to extend our sincere appreciation to you and to the thousands of fans who rallied, convoyed, blogged and otherwise helped carry the torch to save Saab. We are humbled and we are grateful, and we want you to know it.

Looking ahead, our vision remains clear: Saab is committed to creating inspiring cars for independent thinkers who are searching for something more than just another car. In a few months, we will bring a new, completely redesigned Saab 9-5 sedan to North America. Built with the latest technology and progressive Scandinavian design, we believe the 9-5 rivals the best of the premium imports.

In the near future, we’ll also introduce the 9-4X, a fun-to-drive luxury sport crossover that befits the Saab badge. These new vehicles will join our highly regarded 9-3 family of vehicles.

Again, many thanks for your continued support and inspiration. We look forward to writing the next chapter of our history and bringing you a different perspective on vehicles for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Saab History just received the following information from a number of Saab dealerships in the United States.

Mike Colleran has been named as President & Chief Operating Officer of the future Saab Cars North America organization. This is very good news, and having met him at the recent 2009 Saab Owners Convention, I am happy to hear how this process will unfold in the United States.

More details coming shortly.

Today, I would like to announce the next step forward in anticipation of a renewed Saab presence in North America with the appointment of Michael “Mike” Colleran as President and Chief Operating Officer of Saab Cars North America.

Mike has been a member of the Saab USA team since 2005 and most recently served as Sales Director for the General Motors Premium brands which include Saab, Cadillac, and HUMMER. Mike started his career with General Motors in 1989 after serving in the U.S. Military and has served in various sales, service and marketing roles during his twenty-year automotive career.

As we ready to finalize the sale to Koenigsegg group AB in the next months, Mike will be forming a new Saab team with the responsibility of preparing Saab and its partners for independent operations in North American markets. Those appointments will be announced at a later date.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for all for your unwavering support during the last months and I would ask you to remain focused as we move into the next exciting chapter of Saab Automobile’s history.

Best regards,
Jan Ã…ke Jonsson

GM Board of Directors statement, attributable to Kent Kresa, Chairman

“The Board has recognized for some time that the Company’s restructuring will likely cause a significant change in the stockholders of the Company and create the need for new directors with additional skills and experience. The Board intends to work to nominate a slate of directors for the next annual meeting that will include a majority of new directors taking into account the addition of new directors, retirement, and decisions by individual directors not to stand for re-election, although the specific individuals who will be nominated or choose not to run or leave the board are not yet known.”
