If you are a Saab owner, enthusiast or supporter of the “SAVE SAAB” campaign. Whether you participated in a gathering somewhere around the globe or simply want to show that you were a supporter of the campaign and Saab spirit wherever you live, I encourage you to buy one of these limited production “Save Saab” t-shirts provided by the Swedish company, Tretorn.

Please Note: Right now, the t-shirt is only able to be sold in the United States. I’ve worked with Tretorn to ensure international availability, but their system is unable to provide this. If you are in another country other than the U.S., I would advise getting the t-shirts shipped to a colleague in the states, then pay them through paypal, the shipping cost to you.

An Update From Saab Automobile On Saab Status

Posted on 07. Jan, 2010 by .

A Saab Automobile update has been sent. Take a look below, no real news here, but it’s important to have this down for the record.

Interesting, a new name in the Swedish Government, Hans Linblad, perhaps we should contact him too in addition to the others. I could not find his name on the Swedish Government’s website however.

Below is a recap sent to Saab Employees in Sweden, loosely translated.

Parallel work continues

As you know the company is working on with plans for a structured settlement and parallel GM evaluates the bids coming in from stakeholders. There is much speculation in the media, we can not comment right now. We await the decisions coming from GM.

Government representatives to Detroit

A delegation from the government and the business department with, among others, Secretary of State Joran Hagglund and State Secretary Hans Lindblad, Department of Finance, will travel to Detroit this weekend to meet with GM. The delegation also travels to Detroit to meet with Volvo owner Ford.

Saab Owner outside GM’s headquarters

On Twelfth Night were American Saab Owners outside GM’s headquarters in Detroit to show their support for the sale of Saab. This has received attention in a variety of media. Listen to the video on Saabhistory.com. There you can hear, among other things, interviews with a Saab Owners who traveled 14 hours to participate in the operation in Detroit. Images are also available in Saabsunited.com and Jalopnik.com

“If there are enough Saab owners and enthusiasts parked outside of the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit, perhaps we could really show them how serious we are in wanting Saab Automobile to have a bright future and ask the enthusiast,” said Ryan Emge, editor of the independent saabhistory.com news site, view the activity on Tuesday.

It is also planned various activities in Europe on 17 January. Swedish Saab Clubs will gather on the Saab Car Museum in Trollhättan and drive in convoy through and out of Trollhattan Saab Automobile. Although Dutch, Belgian and British Saab Clubs cortege will form with the objective of influencing a sale is made by Saab.

Saab Delays Board Meeting, GM Proceeds with Wind-Down

Posted on 07. Jan, 2010 by .

Bloomberg indicates that Saab Automobile has delayed their own internal board meeting today as GM continues with wind down.

It’s all up to the EIB loan that the Swedish Government need to agree to now, if that does not happen, GM won’t be able to accept any of the bids coming in.

We have until 5pm today for those bids to come in, then we’ll have to learn if anything was accepted and ultimately if production will be restarted at the Saab factory on January 11th.

Read more below:

By Ola Kinnander

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) — Saab Automobile AB, the Swedish brand being wound down by General Motors Co., postponed a board meeting to discuss production plans until tomorrow as its owner said a last-minute deal to sell the unit is unlikely.

The gathering, originally set for today, will examine whether or how to restart production Jan. 11 after a four-week break, board member Haakan Danielsson said. Board members haven’t received specific agenda for the meeting, which may also discuss any possible revised bids for Saab, he said.

“We have customers who have ordered cars, especially the 9-3” model, Danielsson, who is also head of Trollhaettan, Sweden-based Saab’s engineering union, said in a telephone interview. “We have the materials and we’ll just go out and build the cars unless we hear differently.”

GM has extended a deadline for Saab bids until today, giving Spyker Cars NV more time to come up with financing for its offer, people familiar with the matter have said. The Dutch super-car maker plans to submit a more detailed offer before a 5 p.m. deadline in New York today, CEO Victor Muller told Bloomberg News late yesterday.

Posted on 03. Jan, 2010 by .

As part of a continued effort to “Save Saab”, I am providing this press release for you to pass onto your media contacts.

We need as much media attendance at this event as possible, with Saab’s fate to be determined by next Thursday.

Media Invite To Saab Enthusiast Gathering Near GM Renn Center To Save Saab

On Thursday, January 7th, a deadline will expire and GM will ultimately need to decide the fate of Saab Automobile.

“Sell Opposed To Shutdown”. There are two known interested parties that have submitted bids to buy Saab, Spyker Cars & Merbanco.

As time is of the essence, Saab Enthusiasts have therefore decided to take an initiative by gathering near GM’s world headquarters in Detroit, in order to send a message to GM to “SELL SAAB”.

Saab owners and enthusiasts from the U.S. & Canada will gather near the GM Renaissance Center at approximately 1pm by showing their unwavering Saab spirit in lining up their Saabs, holding Signs, taking group photographs and speaking to the press about how important it is to sell Saab.

Saab owners, Saab dealers and U.S. taxpayers alike, all want to see Saab sold in order to preserve thousands of jobs and and nearly $500 million dollars from the 218 Saab dealerships, small business assets in the United States.

“If there are enough Saab owners and enthusiasts parked outside of the GM Renaissance center in Detroit, perhaps we could really show them how serious we are in wanting Saab Automobile to have a bright future and be sold.” says Ryan Emge, editor of SaabHistory.com, an independent promotional news site.

This timely event marks a final effort in the Saab Community to save a company that has historically seen the value in saving the lives of its customers.

As my last post for 2009, I want to write you to thank you for your viewership over the year. For some of you, you are new to Saab History, others, well you you know who you are.

I also want to thank my sponsors this year that included New Salem Saab, JMK Saab, Cherry Hill Saab, Tynan’s Saab, Swedish Motorcars, Mile Hi Auto Body, Exclusive Motors, Garry Small Saab, Shaw Saab and Saab USA Parts

This year, I thought it was a good idea to show you the people behind the curtain as it’s quite rare that we are altogether at the same time, same place. The photo above is from the Frankfurt Auto show that I managed to attend, thanks to Tynan’s Saab & JMK Saab back in September. It was at this show, where many Saab enthusiasts such as myself managed to see the global launch of the all new Saab 9-5.

The folks in the photo left to right includes Nicolas Demunyck at the Saab Farm, Claude Moreau, Ryan Emge / Saab History, our colleague Etienne in Belgium at Saabhuy.net, Steven Wade of Saabs United as well as Robin Morley. We’ve been doing all that we can do to help support Saab and communicate it to you all of the world. In the near year, Saab History plans on doing even more.

2009 was a long and challenging time for Saab as well as the entire Saab Community, but with some luck, I hope that there are good things to look forward to in 2010!

Happy New Year!

Saab History Launches Mobile Site

Posted on 15. Dec, 2009 by .

Saab History Launches Mobile Site

PORTLAND, ME – Saab History has, following a recent social media launch and upgrade of the website, launched a mobile site.

The Saab History mobile site aims to meet the needs of the growing visitors that use internet ready mobile devices today.

Users of internet ready mobile devices such as the Blackberry, Iphone, Google Android and others should now experience an efficient and streamlined access to RSS based content than ever before, while still having the access to the traditional site as an alternative.

The new mobile site should be immediately available for most by simply pointing to the same website address as before. The site will auto sense the type of internet-ready mobile phone device, and direct visitors to the appropriate destination.

“As an information resource, it is important to offer multiple communication options in which visitors can choose. A mobile site was the next logical addition to Saab History”.

The site www.saabhistory.com, is owned and managed independently from Saab Automobile, GM and any other affiliates

Saab History Donates Saab Information Archive To VSCNA

Posted on 12. Nov, 2009 by .

Saab History donates an entire Saab archive of press releases, accessories catalogs, brochures and Saab Magazines to the Vintage Saab Club Of North America (VSCNA).

The VSCNA, formerly known as the New England Sonett Club is the premiere vintage Saab club in North America and it is my great pleasure to see this collection go to a good home.

The time in building this material over the years has been significant. It was important to ensure that the collection continues as a complete unit, so it was only logical that it go to the VSCNA.

Here is the official press release from the VSCNA

It gives me great pleasure to announce the VSCNA has accepted a valuable donation from Ryan Emge DBA SaabHistory.Com.

Ryan’s donation includes nearly 100 Lbs of Saab Literature dating back to the early 70’s. The collection includes Press Releases, Saab Accessory Catalogs & Saab Soundings magazines. The VSCNA Archives will retain one copy of each item and make the rest available to it’s membership for the cost of shipping and handling. This generous donation will provide much needed archival information to our members for many years to come.

Thanks Ryan!

Best Regards,
Bruce Turk
President VSCNA
