Saab History Learns That Merbanco Group Was Not Chosen

Posted on 02. Dec, 2009 by .

Saab History has learned that one of the three speculated bidders for Saab Automobile, the Wyoming based Merbanco Group was unfortunately not chosen.

After recently developing a relationship with Christopher Johnston of Merbanco Group I have learned about his history with Saab, his passion for the car company, his own interests and how his approach would have been very well suited to take on Saab Automobile as a new owner.

While I am deeply disappointed that this route was not chosen or even considered, I have appreciated getting to know him and his honest interests in saving Saab Automobile.

Here’s a piece that Christopher Johnston provided Saab History tonight for us to reflect on:

“As most of you know, we ride with the brand, the fit was good, and were up to the challenges ahead. It is now time for us to depart the field and support the company and its outstanding people.

We are grateful to all of you, fellow Saab enthusiasts and the Saab team for the support you have us. It will never be forgotten. Heartfelt thanks, Ryan and friends for your support.”

Saab 9-3x Billboard Spotted Near Göteborg Airport

Adam H of Saab Automobile has recently provided Saab History a wonderful photo of the Saab 9-3x on a billboard outside of the Landvetter Airport in Gothenburg, Sweden.

This billboard is also very close to where Saab Automobile AB’s advertising, marketing, sales and design office is located in nearby Mölnlycke, Sweden.

I am guessing this billboard was in plain view to all of the prospective visitors as they departed from the Landvetter Airport in Göteborg as they headed North to Trollhättan? If so, good planning over the past three weeks?

A thank you to Adam for the photograph, it must be exciting times at Saab Automobile Sweden at both this office and the main facilities in Trollhättan.

Saab History Learns That Koenigsegg & Power Circle Are Best Choices As Prospective Saab Automobile Owners

Posted on 30. Apr, 2009 by .

I have recently received an e-mail from an anonymous insider. This person has indicated that apparently Saab Automobile believes that the Swedish company Koenigsegg & the Swedish investment group (Power Circle) are to be the best possible buyers for their company at this time.

Swedish company, Koenigsegg is the third automobile manufacturer in Sweden and has a long racing history and is touted as the best company to take ownership of Saab Automobile.

Power Circle is a Swedish investment group coupled with Sweden’s Innovatum in Trollhattan and the country’s largest energy provider, Vattenfall. The Norwegian government has also expressed interest in funding the new hybrid development and electric car projects at Saab Automobile as well.

It looks like right now, unless things change, the Swedish investment group, Koenigsegg & the Swedish Government will be the formation of financially supporting Saab Automobile once emerged from reconstruction on May 20th. Having a fully-Swedish owned & invested company will satisfy the requirements of the Swedish Government’s loan guarantees ensuring sustainability and locality keeping all production, talent, engineering, etc. at Saab Automobile in Sweden.

I should mention that the Power Circle group, and all of the parties involved have not responded to Saab History’s inquiries, and they are the only ones that have not, coincidence?

I leave you with a quote from Saab Automobile’s Eric Geers not too long ago.

“I cannot disclose who they are, but I can confirm that there is a group of investors in Sweden which has shown interest,” Saab spokesman Eric Geers told Automotive News.
