Simon Padian, Saab’s Brand Design Chief along with Kaj Zackrisson, Saab-Salomon’s professional skier are featured in a new video urging people to get out and test drive a new Saab 9-3x.

This video is currently shown on the global Saab.com website and should be applicable for most markets, excluding the United States as those vehicles won’t ship until the deal is closes this coming Monday.

For more information about Simon Padian & Kaj Zackrisson, please check out the interviews I did with them in Frankfurt & Detroit respectively. For more details on the Saab 9-3x, please visit the Saab History archive.

Saab Sighting Of The Week "1992 Saab 900 Turbo Project In Los Angeles!"

This week’s Saab Sighting Of The Week was quite a suprise when I received an e-mail over the weekend. This photo was taken by a camera phone (note it’s a bit wavy), of the Saab History 1992 Saab 900 Turbo Project that found a new home late last year in the West coast!

It was nice seeing this photo as I could see the critical “Made In Trollhattan” by Trolls sticker, the classic New England Saab Association Sticker and Saab-Salomon stickers and of course the Saab Rally Lights on the front, a throwback to Saab’s rally days.

I think it looks quite happy out there, in a good and resourceful new home with great year-round weather enjoying some nice travels in the area.

A thank you to the individual that shared this photo with me. I think the one who sent me this photo, did not know that this was once owned by Saab History, thinking it was just a random Saab sighting as it was not from the owner.

Saab Sighting Of The Week “Saab @ Apple, Boston, MA”

This past weekend, I hit a great combination “Saab Sighting of the week“. This was a Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan, in front of the Apple store in Boston, Massachusetts!

What is so great about this sighting is that Saab has recently been mentioned as being the “Apple of the Automotive business“. Secondly, Saab is still heavily advertised and marketed in Boston ever since it started here in 1956. In fact, Saab was going to be the official vehicle of the Boston Red Sox!

There are so many more cross-related areas to talk about here here, but for the time being I will hold off on them. I am glad however that I had enough time to snap this photo the other day, because this Saab parked in an area where there are “Saab parking meters! I wonder if they got a discount on their parking given that their make was indicated on the meter itself or that they parked in front of the Apple Store?

I hope to see some more cross-promotional activities between Apple & Saab much like the Saab-Salomon partnership.

Saab Sighting Of the Week – “Saab 9-5 Gary Fisher Edition At L.L. Bean”

This weekend, I managed to see yet another Saab in front of L.L. Bean in Portland, Maine, this time a beautiful Saab 9-5 “Gary Fisher” edition, complete with the unique wheels! The Gary Fisher Edition 9-5 came out in 2000, when Saab Automobile USA partnered with Gary Fisher as their bicycle partner, then a year later the program ended and the Saab-Salomon partnership began.

I am starting to wonder that people are specifically parking their Saabs in front L.L. Bean for bragging rights for the “Saab Sightings Of The Week” here on Saab History, seriously. 🙂

If we look back I have seen a 9-3 Sport Sedan out front, and two Saab 9-5 sedans parked on the rear entrance to the outlet.

This was another great sighting, so keep them coming!

This press release just in from Saab Automobile USA, is the third in a series that have been posted since this summer about the 2.0T models receiving the new haldex XWD Cross-Wheel Drive system.

Saab Automobile Includes XWD for 2.0 engines – July 23rd, 2008

Saab 9-3 XWD offered with greater fuel efficiency – July 13th, 2008

Following the test-drive of the XWD Turbo-X in Boston this past May, I am still looking forward to a real-life test drive of XWD on a 2.0T Saab 9-3 SportCombi and/ Cross-Combi, this winter here on an icy, snowy road en-route to Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vermont to continue another test flight of the Saab-Salomon partnered Aero-X Skis.

For Immediate Release — September 15, 2008

Model Year 2009 Portfolio Overview and Pricing

SAAB EXTENDS XWD CROSS-WHEEL-DRIVE TO 9-3 2.0T MODELS

DETROIT — Saab begins the 2009 model year with attractive news for those seeking a vehicle that combines the enhanced functionality of cross-wheel-drive technology, Scandinavian design and an engaging, turbocharged driving experience.

Saab broadens the appeal of its 9-3 range – it’s most popular – for 2009 with available XWD cross-wheel-drive technology on 9-3 2.0T Sport Sedan and SportCombi models and a new 2.0T “Sport” model. Cross-wheel drive availability started in the 2008 model year with the V-6-equipped 9-3 Aero and the limited-edition Turbo X Sport Sedan and SportCombi.

“True to its Scandinavian origins, Saab has built a large part of its reputation on excellent road manners under difficult driving conditions like rain, sleet and snow,” said Steve Shannon, Saab Automobile USA general manager. “Our new cross-wheel-drive technology, which delivers unprecedented levels of driver involvement and dynamic chassis control, further illustrates Saab’s commitment to offering active safety in sporty, efficient and driver-focused vehicles.”

Saab’s XWD cross-wheel-drive is a pre-emptive, active-on-demand system that is activated only when required, limiting the impact on fuel economy while giving the car a surefooted, dynamic feel that enthusiasts embrace. It is available on all 9-3 models except the Convertible, which has a different floorpan that does not accommodate additional rear-wheel-drive components. The Saab 9-3 2.0T XWD Sport Sedan and SportCombi will come standard with additional equipment such as a winter package, moonroof and automatic transmission, while a 6-speed manual is also available.
