I want to say, today was from what everyone that attending including the press have said, a great success. We had over 50 people attend which is phenomenal, and over 20 press members from local and national interviewing us.

Everyone that attended included folks from Cape Cod & Hingham, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio, Wisconsin and as far away as Iowa! The true Saab spirit really was well represented and you could feel it.

The folks at GM were very supportive of this initiative today and despite the weather, we all hung out outside in the parking lot with the GM world headquarters as our backdrop for nearly 2 hours in the blistering cold and snowy weather to send our message.

The message we believed we were successful in sending was for GM to “Sell Saab”. We hope that the press coverage will be as positive as it can be in covering this event.

The job is not yet done as there is one last remaining aspect to the “Save Saab” campaign and that is for GM to Sell Saab.

It was clear today that they got our message, now they just need to do the right thing and complete the deal.

More to come!

Saab History Arrives In Detroit Ready To "Save Saab"

Posted on 05. Jan, 2010 by .

I finally arrived in Detroit late tonight, and will be resting up for a good day tomorrow where I plan to join others for the “Save Saab” gathering.

Some of the Saab enthusiasts will be traveling as far as Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Iowa to attend the “Save Saab” gathering. I want to sincerely thank all of the individuals that are attending, you are really showing your Saab spirit and now the whole world is watching!

For those are unable to attend, particularly here in the United States, please contact your state Senator or U.S. Representative as soon as possible. I managed to connect with my own State Senator, Susan Collins in Maine as she was passing by me in the Airport on my way to Detroit this morning. When I spoke with her, she said she already knows about the ongoing “Save Saab” campaign and said she’s doing all she can. That’s great that one of our Senators is well aware of the initiative, and here’s hoping the rest do too!

I also want to thank the press who are doing a continually outstanding and unprecedented job at reporting this Saab gathering as of late. Please keep up the great coverage and we hope to see many of you in Detroit tomorrow along with us!

I lastly want to thank my contacts recently at GM for being supportive of our initiative and I hope that we’re able to do our very best tomorrow in communicating our message in our gathering outside that Saab needs to be sold.

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Bloomberg reports that Saab Dealerships in the United States are running out of cars. Former Saab History site sponsor, Jim Ellis Saab of Atlanta sees this as a big problem, yet there’s apparently nothing the dealerships can do about it.

However, it does look like production will grow just after the first of the new year of 2010.

For Sale: 1992 Saab 900 Turbo 5-Speed 3-Door Hatchback.

This is as classic as it gets for the Saab 900, it’s a second to the last year of the classic Saab 900 Hatchback.

This Saab has no rust as it has been in Florida & Virginia it’s whole life until I transported it to Maine in 2008 directly to an indoor storage facility.

Since it has been up here, it has been driven once a month in the spring, summer and fall only, every few months since the restoration was completed in August of 2008. It is been started up every month and run for 20 minutes in the winter season while in the storage facility (with the door open of course).

Dulles International Airport Sells Saab 900 Friction Tester

Dulles International Airport in Virginia has auctioned off their 1990 Saab 900 Turbo that had only 14,909 miles on it for $16,335 USD!

This friction tester like so many others such as Albany,NY, Burlington, Vermont has been in service for years and will hopefully be replaced with another more modern Saab 9-5 Friction tester like the one that Boston, Massachusetts has.

I hope that the lucky bidder finds themselves enjoying this fine piece of machinery with so much life left to it, because they certainly paid a pretty penny for it and it may be one of the most expensive classic 900 purchases in recent years.

For more information and photos of it, please visit the auction website directly while it’s available.
