Victor Muller Of Spyker Cars Interviewed On Saab Future

Victor Muller of Spyker Cars has been recently interviewed on Saab’s future by Autocar in the U.K.

What made you want to rescue Saab?

It’s what I do for a living, though I’m a genuine car lover as well. Until I founded Spyker I was a pretty successful acquisitions lawyer and a financier. Some of the money I made, I managed to lose again on Spyker, though we now have an new direction for that company. But with Saab, I’m doing what I’m best at.

How will you know you’ve succeeded?

When Saab is profitable, and making the cars people want to buy. I estimate we’ll need a volume of around 100,000 cars, nearly all made in Trollhattan to pay for the infrastructure. The proceeds of every car we make over that will go straight to the bottom line.

What will the model range consist of?

We’ve got a new 9-5 ready to go, the 9-4X SUV is coming towards the end of the year. The 9-3 is our staple model, and still has life in it. And at the moment I’m driving a design for a new small car.

Are you playing a role in the design process?

Sure, I’m doing things with it every day. It’s going to be the coolest thing since the Mini. I carry renderings of the latest designs with me, and I talk to the Saab guys all the time. I want it to be influenced by the first Saab, in fact my codename for it is 92, like the first one. It uses the original teardrop shape; the aircraft with no wings. That’s where Saab cars came from.

When will it hit the market? Will your partner be GM?

Saab 9-3x Launched In Italy At Open House

This past weekend, the Saab 9-3x was launched in Italy at an open house.

As part of this launch, there is website www.saab93x.it where users can access driving itineraries specifically designed to get the most out of the Saab 9-3x. It looks pretty impressive with beautiful routes, complete with appropriate dining and lodging accommodations along the way.

Here is a copy of their press release available here from source, translated by Google.

On 3 and October 4, 2009 open house to present the Saab 9-3X, a model that marks the debut of the Saab crossover segment

A “social competition” to anticipate the exit market

Presented in preview at the Geneva Motor Show last February, the new Saab 9-3X will make its debut to the general public at the door the weekend of 3 and 4 October 2009, at the Saab dealer network. Already since Monday 28 September, an interesting “social competition”, which in 6390 totaled just four days he visits, he anticipates the exit to the market.

The new entry Saab 9-3X crossover segment marks the debut of Saab and the Swedish company makes it quite innovative, in line with their own DNA. The Scandinavian roots, in fact, can not but be reflected in their cars: the harsh climate and the rugged nature of the territory of Scandinavia are the place where many manufacturers conduct trials on their car as Saab, here, the car produces.

The Saab 9-3X is a car that combines an attractive exterior design and surprising performance in the driving wheel-drive thanks to XWD (cross wheel drive, available in conjunction with the petrol engines), which allows the driver to always have top grip on any terrain and in all conditions, combined with a self-leveling suspension system for a more neutral attitude. The performance off road and in critical condition to drive can be optimized through the limited-slip differential with electronic control (eLSD), available as an option, which allows the dynamic allocation and optimal driving force between the rear wheels.

In Italy, the new Saab crossover will be available in the 2.0 TS petrol engine XWD, two-stage 1.9 turbo diesel with DPF and TTiD 2.0TS XWD BioPower, which combines the pleasure of driving a four wheel drive with the advantages of bioethanol E85. All engines are available with 6-speed manual gearbox. The petrol and diesel engines can also be equipped with one or Sentronic 6-speed automatic transmission.

Since Sept. 28, anticipating the release on the market for Saab 9-3X, the homepage of the site or directly at www.saab.it, www.saab93x.it you can access the original “social competition”: this is a contest in which users, having recorded, in addition to enjoy a range of itineraries specifically designed by Saab to appreciate the most of the riding abilities of the new crossover, can create their own routes, share them with friends and vote the best. The routes that will win the most votes will be rewarded with a weekend of adventure in an Italian village.

The initiative was conveyed on a variety of media tools, from traditional print to direct mail but the main peculiarity of this contest was the presence on the circuits of social networks, through viral video uploaded to YouTube and posted on

Posted on 27. Jul, 2009 by .

The 2009 Saab Owners Convention is just around the corner next month and as part of the convention, there will be a live auction that has already started.

The live auction includes many vehicles in pristine order including the last of the SPG’s, a 1991 model year in Talladega Red as shown above!

Here’s the writeup about this auction with all associated hyperlinks for the various vehicles including a direct link to the bid site itself.

Hey Gang… just wanted everyone to know that the Catalog of SOC09 Live Auction Items is posted today on Proxibid …. exactly 4 weeks ahead of the Live SAAB Auction at Copper Mountain. But you can start the bidding now, and bid until the Auctioneer drops the hammer real time on August 14th during the Live Auction.

Your SOC09/RMSC Auction Committee has been working hard to get the consignments and donations all listed, but there is a lot more stuff to come. We decided to go online with the initial nine (9) vintage & classic SAAB cars and nine (9) items of Parts and Memorabilia. Check back often for new items that will be added. All the dozens of items that don’t make it to the Live Auction will go in the Silent Auction and the John Moss Sunday Charity Auction. Those event are only open to registered SOC attendees.

The initial Live Auction listing of cars has a couple Sonetts, an MC850, a V4 Vintage Racer, and 2 really primo C900 Convertibles. The Parts & Memorabilia Auction has some interesting and somewhat rare items …. Talledaga Wheels, a beautiful original Saab painting, Diecast model “Sadie,” 95/96 ribbed dash pad, a Halda Speedpilot, and more. And there will be more items added before the Saab Convention in August. But please register to bid, and you can start bidding today even if you will be at the Convention for the Live Auction finale.

We, of course, wish everyone in the Saab Community could be with us at Copper Mountain but the next best thing if you can’t be there is to register to view the live video webcast on Proxibid.com. You will get to see the cars and other items with live streaming video and see, plus hear, the auctioneer live also ……….. but, best of all, you can BID!!

The Auction Catalog can be found at http://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=21109

The cars will also be featured individually on YouTube with 2 minute videos. So far the first 5 Saabs are posted, with more to come as video becomes available. See the Auction Cars on YouTube at my “Elkmtnman” Channel. The links for the 5 are listed below.

1974 Sonett III
1969 Sonett V4
1969 96V4 Vintage Racer
1991 900 SPG
1966 96 MC850

Please forward this message to everyone you know in the worldwide Saab Community. And of course there’s still time to register and attend the Saab Convention in Colorado Aug 13-16. It’s going to be great!

Thanks for helping to spread the word. All net revenue from the Live Auction Commissions and Fees will go to help defray expenses of hosting the Saab Owners Convention.
